Data Usage
I want to measure the data coming in and out of my router. Is there a firmware that I can use or does my router have this functionality? In light of the recent new charges going into affect soon, I want to keep track of my usage myself.

Also, I purchased the router from Cox... I don't have the model number at this time.

The ability to measure data would depend on the specific router or gateway that you have, not all routers can. We would need to know the make/model of your equipment.
Cox also has their online Data Usage Meter found under My Connection at the top.

DD-WRT has firmware upgrades for a lot of routers. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
DD-WRT is a Linux based alternative OpenSource firmware suitable for a great variety of WLAN routers and embedded systems. The main emphasis lies on providing the easiest possible handling while at the same time supporting a great number of functionalities within the framework of the respective hardware platform used.
The firmware has data usage capability. I use this firmware.
