daily auto call to 225-791-8242
I noticed ever since I switched phone line from AT&T to Cox digital phone. Every day at 5:33A, a call placed to 225-791-8242 for about 8-10 sec. What is this ? Is this some sort of self checking on Cox's end ?

What do you mean a call is placed? Are you seeing this in your call logs? Caller ID? Voicemail?
Looks like its a ATT number from somewhere in Louisiana .

While Cox provides the dial tone for you to make calls, we wouldn't have anything in place that would make an outbound call from your line. I'd suggest checking every phone jack in the home to determine what's connected. Do you have an alarm system, fax machine or some other type of (maybe medical) monitoring equipment that connects to a phone jack?

This happened to me. I was told that it was an alarm system that was communicating by phone. But i did not have an alarm system. Turned out that i did have a piece of equipment in the house that was "updating" daily. Nothing malicious.
One thing you can do is unplug your phones when you go to bed. That way you can be sure that no calls can go out (of course you won't get any incoming calls). You can see if the 8 second call starts as soon as you plug the phones back in (by checking your call log). If so, you do have something in your home that is communicating via the phone.
The phone number in your question is an active phone in Denham Springs. Louisiana. I won't post the full name but the first name is Marilyn. You can find it using one of the many free phone number searches like phonenumberstar.com ( i don't work for them and they are free to use) or just do a google search by entering the number. Let us know if you know the person being called or have ever done business with them (probably not but it is a piece of the mystery).
