Contour Not As Much Fun As It's Hyped Up To Be
The Contour boxes are not as user friendly as the regular HDTV recorders. There is not an option to click on a show that is currently playing and search for future episodes to record. You must go to search and type in the name to search. Every. Single. Time. You. Want. To. Search. Something. This alone makes for a bad experience if you're used to the ease of the "old" HDTV recorders. I love the ability to add users and customize the experience. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being able to record 6 shows at one time, but there are still some user interface issues that should be addressed before Cox gives these out to customers without a warning. The warning being: Your whole experience is about to change, for good and bad.
My husband is not techie and the Contour experience is definitely different from a "normal" TV user's way of recording, watching, handling the DVR List, and search and save options.

The "search" feature is a bit clunky compared to the previous unit. As you mention, the ability to record 6 shows at the same time makes up for a lot of shortcomings. It allows us to check out shows that we would normally have missed. Cox does have an online manual for the Record 6 which is not too techy to understand.

The manual is not for the Record 6 (9865HDC), but rather for Trio (Contour) 2.0.

Thank you for the suggestion. I can submit it to our Product Team for review. In the meantime, when searching, you should see the titles start to populate on the right side of the search. You can page down to scroll through the options faster.

Thank you for the manual. I loved the new Contour box. I love all new things with shiny buttons and new places to venture. My husband still uses a flip phone. lol. I definitely agree the 6 show record does make up for a lot of the shortcomings, but for an average Joe like my husband, who just knows what is missing, the difference is a big one.
Our house will be expanding soon and I will get my "workroom" which will have a contour box. I love the user settings.

I saw how search populated on the side. It is still not as easy as(right from inside of Guide), click REC, scroll to Upcoming Shows, and select a recording in the future. Then it takes you right where you left off in the Guide. You have to get out of guide by going to search, type in a few letters, at least, then page down. It seems like a little thing to fix. The Contour experience is so wonderful otherwise. The users, recordings, being able to change settings remotely. ALL WONDERFUL. In total love. But for the average TV user, some things should still be as easy as 1,2,3.
