Are you saying the default profile created is not a profile at all?

Contour is automatically setup with a default user. You should see the same option in the Contour guide on the TV. You can manage your users from the Settop box and the profile will sync with the App. Are you able to get past the sign in screen? If you do tap Settings and Profiles, are you seeing extra profiles that you don't want? I've also included a YouTube video to help you get started with Contour.
