Connectivity issue

Dear Cox Support Team,

I have been having issues with losing my internet connection over the past several weeks. Yesterday, I could not get the modem to connect at any point.

I have a Motorola SB6141. When I lose my connection the downstream light will come on and stay solid, and the upstream light will continue blinking indefinitely. I have tried unplugging the modem, waiting for several minutes to hours, and then powering back up. This will intermittently fix the problem, but yesterday the light was blinking when I got up in the morning. I tried the usual 'power off, power on' trick, but it didn't work. I came home from work, the light was still blinking. I repeated the process, but it was still blinking. Got up this morning, still blinking. Tried the process again, and it still isn't working.

I still have my old modem. Occasionally when the Motorola isn't connecting, I will try plugging in the old modem. Interestingly, sometimes the old modem will connect right away, and then when I plug it into the Motorola modem it will also connect right away.

Also, the previous week I was at home a lot during the day, and I noticed that the modem seemed to consistently disconnect at around 12pm (give or take 10 minutes).

Thank you for your time!

At this time I don't see the modem online.  From what you described it sounds like there is a problem with the upstream channels.  You try bypassing any cable splitters you may have in use to see if signal improves however it that is not the case it may be necessary for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.

Thanks for your reply.

There aren't any cable splitters involved. I'm not surprised that you don't see the modem online since it doesn't seem to be able to establish a connection. If I can get the modem to connect, should I re-post so you can monitor the connection for problems? Also, does this sound like a wiring issue vs. modem issue? As you know, arranging for technician visit can be problematic, and I'd like to exclude any other possibilities first.

Thanks again!

I was able to pull the signal history as reported by the modem and the transmit levels are rather poor.  From this end it's really not possible to determine if that is a signal issue or a failing modem reporting bad signal.  The only way to effectively determine that would be to take some signal measurements and/or try a test modem and see if there is improvement.

Thank you for checking. It looks like I'll be scheduling a technician visit!

I just installed my SB6141 today. I think everything seems okay, except I don't understand the front panel lights. The up and down lights are Blue. The Power and Connectivity are White. The transmitting/receiving light is a flashing Amber. I really don't understand the White Lights. I also have the Premier package. What should I be seeing under the circumstances?
