Closed Caption button

Not sure what remote you have, but it sounds like you are turning the cable box's CC on. When you press the CC button on the remote, which button blinks? Cable or TV? If TV, you might have to map that button different, but I would need to know which remote you have to give steps. Could you pick your remote from these?

The CC options offered by Trio (Contour) do not support the CC button on the URC-8820 or earlier remotes. The cable box CC functions MUST be accessed via the Trio menus. This is one of many omissions in the latest two Trio updates. I, and others, have made Cox aware of the problem.

Apparently nobody has a solution to this problem?  It annoys me that I can't have close captioning on the TV connected directly to the cable box, but TVs in other rooms have CC.

The other rooms' TVs are probably using the TV's CC. You can do that as well on the TV connected to the box, or use the STB's CC by navigating the box's menus.

I see, so the remote has a CC button, and the box has a separate CC function, but the remote doesn't have a button for the box's CC.

I still think you might be able to remap a key on the remote if it's a major annoyance to you. But why can't you just leave CC on? Or can't you even set CC options for individual channels when its off the box?

The CC button on the remote is meant to be the controlling button for the STB's CC, but the Trio (Contour) developers forgot to "hook it up." Perhaps they will do so on a future version. Yes, going through the convoluted menu stages to turn on the CC for one program leaves it on for ALL programs on ALL channels until you brave the menus again to turn it off. I just use my TV's remote CC button when necessary.

The CC button not working has been an ongoing issue. Older threads here have Cox promising to have this working years ago but it does not work. Instead of pushing new services, why don't Cox fix the CC button?
