Caller ID: Incorrect name displayed for some calls

Since switching one phone line over to Cox phone service we have noticed the incorrect name displayed for some incoming calls. The calls were displayed with the correct name on the previous carrier and the same calls are currently displayed with the correct name on a second phone line with another carrier.  Thank you.

Hi RobH,

What comes across the caller id we have no control over. When a customer signs up for phone service, he/she provides the company with how they would like to be listed for phone books, directory assistance, caller id, etc. The number is then supplied to other companies that pull the information from a database. What you see coming across the caller id is what the other party provided to their company.

When you receive the calls, what is displayed on the caller ID? Does it tell you unavailable or the city and state of the caller?

Please read my Post again.   Your reply does not address the problem.  Thank you.

Hi Rob,

It sounds like this might require a closer look. So that we can investigate, please email us your full service address at cox.help@cox.com!

I emailed Cox Help as you suggested and I am disappointed with their response and the way Cox handles its Caller ID service. They apparently want me to give them the correct Caller ID information that they can manually enter into a database.  This was not the case with our previous carrier AT&T or our current VOIP carrier for our second and third phone lines.   Therefore, it appears that Cox is cutting corners with its Caller ID look-up service (perhaps farmed out to a third party) to save a nickel at great inconvenience to its customers .  There is no other explanation.

Actually, all carriers send Caller ID information to and pull Caller ID information from a centralized Line Information Database. We were trying to compare records to see where the disconnect is, since all LIDBs should be in sync, but if AT&T isn't talking to TNSI or TNSI isn't talking to Neustar or Neustar isn't talking to Verizon then we have problems. Since you never got back to us, we couldn't go any further.

The "problems" are with Cox.   To reiterate yet again, we don't have this problem with AT&T or VOIPo for our second and third phone lines.  Those carriers provide us with the correct Caller ID name info.   Cox does not.  I provided Cox with the phone numbers for which the Caller ID name is knowingly incorrect.

Indeed you did, but you didn't tell us what you believe the incoming name (CNAM) should show, and without a point of comparison our switch technicians have no reason to believe our LIDB provider is incorrect.

We're really not trying to be difficult, but there are certain things we need to submit a ticket and have a database or link discrepancy resolved.

At this point I'm going to have to close this thread and redirect it back to email, because if you really do want it fixed it's going to involve personal information that can't be posted here.
