I have recently upgraded to the new Contour Whole Home DVR. On my last DVR, regardless of what channel i chose (standard or HD) It would automatically display the HD version of the channel. No need to manually search for it, click "view in HD", or type in the correct channel (1008 instead of 8, for example)
On Concur, is it possible to do the same?

No, auto HD viewing is not an option on Contour. It's available even on the Miniboxes, It's a very desired feature and I hope Cox includes it in a future update.

Right, Chris. That prompt "usually" comes up but even that is an inconsistent experience.
Nobody should be forced to type in 4-digit channel numbers by default. Who the heck wants to watch SD channels by default?
Seems easy enough to implement if the less-capable non-Contour boxes can do it. Come on, Cox!!

This feature is becoming more common amongst the other national providers like DTV, FIOS, TWC, etc. Hopefully Cox can include this in an update soon.

Perhaps there's a misunderstanding with what I said before. What I see on my Contour doesn't require using 4 digit channel numbers. When going to the SD version of a channel there will usually be a prompt on the info bar for that channel that appears to push a single button on the remote to switch to the HD version if available.

No misunderstanding at all. As I said, Contour systems "usually" offer the yellow A button to switch to the HD version of the channel.
Two problems with that: 1) Usually doesn't cut it... this is inconsistently offered 2) it's not automatic if I have to tell the system to use the HD version.
If the Contour box can be smart enough to know that there's a HD version of the same program available, it can be smart enough to know to tune automatically to that channel by default. If anything, the option should be to show the SD version, in the event DVR capacity is at a premium and people want to record/view the SD version.
Who PREFERS the SD version of any program, especially on Cox where it's highly compressed to look good only on traditional CRT 4:3 aspect ratio 480i TVs?
