Are the "discounts" really discounts?!?

So I sign up for the preferred service on my newly constructed home.   A continuation of service I previously had.  I am told two days later, it would only be another "12-24 hours".  I hear nothing, so two more days pass and I request the status again.  Now I'm told that because its a brand new house, "Cox must do a professional install to make sure it works" .  No one at Cox contacted me, and had I not called, I would have kept waiting... I just paid a builder a lot of money to make sure "it works", why am I paying Cox another $80?!?

So on top of the $74.99 I was required to pay up front ($30 of which was a 'one time' fee) .  Now I'm told I am required to spend another $80 for a Cox rep to plug in my cable modem.  That's $110 (assuming the other 44.99 goes towards my first bill, which is doubtful) of additional cost Cox has added for seemingly no services provided.  So they claim you get 10$ off a month, but what they are really saying is, pay us a $30 fee, and we'll give you $30 off.  This sounds like a very unethical practice Cox.

I think this is best discussed with a Cox representative and not on a technical public forum. This is more of a billing issue then a technical issue.

Here's another "savings" story.

When I first subscribed to Cox, I bundled my services (TV, Internet, telephone).  Out of appreciation for my bundling, Cox "rewarded" me with a Bundled Savings Pak, which was $13.78 off my monthly bill.  Nice.

However, Cox mandatorily attached the Sports & Information Pak ($8.50) and Cox Service Protection Plan ($6.99) to the Bundled Savings Pak.  I was paying $1.71 for the Bundled Savings Pak.  If I dropped a Pak, either Sports & Information or Service Protection, I would lose the Savings Pak.

It was also funny how the price for the Sports & Information Pak and Service Protection Plan would increase each year...but the Savings Pak would not.

$1.71 isn't much money, but it's $20.52 per year and would exponentially increase as the mandatory add-ons increased.
