All Digital Mini Box

Congratulations, Cox. You've given me yet one more reason to dump your cable service once Verizon FiOS finishes up their cabling in my neighborhood. I have two TVs in my house that are 100% digital and connected directly to a wall outlet where we've enjoyed "basic" cable channels. Now you come along and develop this b.s. system that now holds those two TVs hostage unless I pay you even more per month. Sure, it's "free" for two years, and I'd be an idiot not to think other parts of my cable bill won't go up during that time, but after that two years, my bill will go up $6 plus taxes, fees, and anything else you want to tack onto that. Your whole marketing bull is just that: bull. "Improve my video experience by providing industry-standard all-digital signals". You really need to abide by truth-in-advertising by adding "but only if you pay us for something that's already out there!" All of my TVs are digital and accept digital signals. If I set them up for over the air, I'll get TRUE HD programming, not that compressed or 720-p garbage you transmit. As for the "inclusion" of basic programming information, something you make appear to be an "added feature" to your hostage service - that's already a mandated part of over-the-air digital broadcasting! And the inclusion of 50 channels of commercial free music? Really? I have such a device: it's called a RADIO! And just because you offer 50 channels doesn't mean I would actually listen to even 10 of them. I just hung up with Verizon imploring them to pay their techs in my neighborhood overtime so I can dump Cox ASAP. You guys have sunk to the levels of airlines where you charge for every little thing while piling on a bunch of fees. Next thing you'll do is charge your customers extra fees if they watch more than 30 minutes of TV per day.

Well, Mr. Chris_c21, I believe this fits your criteria of "technical topic discussions", as in Cox now has a technical "solution" that requires me to pay you more money so that two of my TVs that have enjoyed Cox services for over quite a few years will continue to play channels you broadcast. That being said, here's my "technical" topic of discussion: how can I continue to have Cox television broadcasts on two of my digital-ready TVs without paying you more money? I'm already paying you for the Contour-6 system (1 DVR and 2 receivers), of which it's been the most unreliable thing ever since the first weather man made his first weather forecast, so why dig deeper into my pockets to provide me that which those two TVs have had for years?

Simple answer is - you can't.

Another option would be to drop cable TV entirely and buy an antenna.
