I am looking to add some wireless speakers to my home theater. I was told by the speaker manufacturer that since they operate on a 2.4ghz frequency that they may receive interference from my router/modem. Does Cox offer a 5ghz gateway/modem/router as part of their equipment rental?

They sure do, Jinx. Anything marked dual band here: http://www.cox.com/residential/support/tv/article.cox?articleId={b2ec95d0-7ef9-11df-5590-000000000000} supports both 2.4 and 5GHz. The other question, do your current devices also support the 5GHz band?
My recommendation: get a DOCSIS 3 modem only and purchase your own dual band router. You will get better performance with that setup.

This. The combined modem and routers (also known as gateways) are sub-par compared to a separate modem and wireless router. My connection is rock solid and I consistently get my full advertised speed, I have not had to reboot my equipment for weeks.
Plus, you're saving $10 per month by not having to rent Cox's dual-band gateway so your equipment pays for itself after a year or so.
