We've been having a constant problem we can't seem to fix. When turning on the TV, the entire picture is miniature and at the top left corner. The TV itself works fine when we launch apple tv or another streaming service, but when using the cable box, this is what happens. There is no other way to fix other than reboot the contour box by unplugging and re-plugging back in. Cox doesn't know what the issue is either. Why has Cox contour on demand had so many issues as of late when trying to watch on browser? Almost all of the saved shows are missing episode recordings in between or not updating at all. Or when they do have the episodes available they will freeze part way through the episode and never be able to get past the apparent glitch in the episode. I am in the Phoenix area and this is happening again as I write this message. This audio "mystery" is becoming a common event, at least four times in the past few weeks that I'm personally aware of, and very frustrating! For extended periods of time, the audio goes out on Fox News Channel only. Audio on all other channels on my Cox Contour system work just fine! I took the time to deal with Cox support a few weeks ago. They were presumably unaware of any such problem but had me turn on all eight of my TVs throughout the house so they could remotely reboot the boxes. After 45 minutes of jumping through hoops, the rebooting was complete and all TVs had the audio restored. Unfortunately, about 90 minutes later, the audio on Fox News went out again. The only explanation offered by Cox support about why this audio issue exists only on Fox News Channel was "this must be an issue related to the Fox broadcast transmission network". I understand that technical issues happen but this is a chronic problem being experienced by MANY Cox customers in the Phoenix area that routinely watch Fox News. I keep having issues with my audio that keeps going out on ONLY Fox News channel. The only way to get it back on is by rebooting the box which is a pain. It happens on all my 3 boxes in house. Sound loss MSNBC
Repeated loss of sound on MSNBC. This seems to occur 3 to 5 monthly. Often the sound loss occurs late in the afternoon/early evening and sound does not return until the next day. I have had nothing but problems with the cox DVR. Recordings were missed due to “the dvr being full”. I was only using about 10%. I was in the hospital for a while and looked forward to coming home and watching my taped shows. There were about 15 that didn’t record. I called Cox and insisted I don’t pay for the time my programs weren’t recording. They pro-rated my bill. I have had to do this on numerous occasions. Be prepared to spend an hour on this. For the most recent issue they sent a tech who switched me to the Contour box with the cloud. I HATE it! Here are the things that need to be fixed: 1- I used to be able to pause live tv for up to an hour and now it’s only about 10 minutes. 2- while watching different channels I was able to go between the channels and rewind to the spot where I left off. This was great for going between two shows. New contour doesn’t do this. I basically have to record EVERYTHING in order to be able to watch shows I would normally just rewind. Small but annoying. -3 recording space fills up quickly. I know it’s “in the cloud” but that’s an annoyance too. 4- it’s a very small thing but I hate the ads/channel info, etc that show up in the guide. I don’t want them and I already have most of the channels they are pushing. Seems minuscule but I liked being able to see all the main channels (5-10) on one page of the guide. I know that’s not a big deal but it’s still an annoyance. Just not user friendly. 5- the new remote is horrible. When rewinding or fast forwarding it kind a freezes a bit so you don’t really see where you want to stop. It ff too far so then I have to rewind to get it back to the right spot. Then it rewinds quickly very far back. Going between channels used to be one step but now it’s two. The remote is heavier and the buttons aren’t great so with ALL of this extra use and the remote itself my hand really hurts now. Also good luck finding the tiny “delete” button. 6- the volume button rarely works. Sometimes you can get the button just in the right spot and it will work but most of the time it doesn’t. I have to use my TV remote for volume. Tech told me all of the standard DVR’s are refurbished and after time the hard drive stops working. When they refurbish they may see that the hard drive is ok, not knowing it’s about to stop working. Of course every time this happens I lose all of me recorded shows and also have to set up my recordings. I have to take pics of the screen to be sure I set up everything I want. Yes I know I wouldn’t lose this on the new machine (also refurbished - seems like they have NO machines that are not refurbished)since it’s in the cloud, but other than that this “new” machine is horrible. It’s not user friendly and oddly enough it does LESS than the old dvr. - I would like for cox to make changes to at least make this contour as user friendly and good as the old dvr. A newer machine should definitely be better and it definitely is NOT. As I type this, I had a show on (which I had to record to just watch it) and it diverted to the screen with all different screens telling you stuff while whatever show is on tv is in the background. Hit play and it will just open whatever is on tv - not to the recording I was pausing. I will be looking for other alternatives that give me the same smooth use as the old one (except for the box issues). Too bad cable companies are a monopoly and don’t offer any other cable company choices. You can only get what is in your area and unfortunately I am in an area that only gets cox. That’s a whole other thing to get into which I won’t now. Something has to be done so that we have choices for our providers no matter what area you’re in. This would make all of the companies step up to the plate having actual competition. As another poster said, we pay a LOT for cox and it is substandard. For neary two days our cable has been out. No phone, TV or Internet. No information about why or updates to when it might be restored. Signed up for text updates 13 hours after it went out. Nothing until 13 hours later saying techs would be working overnight to restore service but no ETA. Just a "courtesy" request if I wanted to silence the alerts overnight. That's the last message. After 41 hours, the cable finally came back up. Things happen. They shouldn't happen for nearly two full days with no communication about when to expect repair or at least saying you're aware and still working on the issue. I've tried to call support but it refuses to let you speak to a human because they are already aware of the outage and the operator couldn't do anything more than already done. The app, which I could only use burning my data on my cell plan, had a generic message that they were aware of an "network issue causing intermittent outages". I'm sure if I call, and can actually reach a human, I will get a credit for the outage but only if I call. I'll get apologies for the inconvenience. What I would like is an explanation of why an outage for nearly two full days can go on with almost no communication to the affected customers. So I purchased this bundle going yeah, I can stream paramount plus via the app! Well no I can't because no one told paramount to add Cox Cable as a provider. I contacted paramount plus to find out how to link cox to my paramount plus account and was told Cox Cable has not been added to thier list of acceptable providers. I swapped the older cable box for the new one bcs I was not getting all the HBO channels. The remotes that go with it are not user friendly. It will not adjust the volume! I'm having a problem losing audio with MSNBC. Most evenings I lose audio & it always happens immediately after the SilverSea commercial when a commercial for a local (Phoenix) area business comes on. Screen jitters, cuts out, and/or freezes
We have two TVs (garage and family room) with both running Cox model AX061AEl Contour boxes. No problems with the garage box. However, family room box is driving me crazy with multiple problems that started about 3 months ago and have been ramping up to include: While watching live (source doesn’t matter) or recorded programming, the screen frequently jitters, cuts out, and/or freezes. Occasionally, the sound stops mid-program. Sometimes when the screen freezes, the sound continues. When the screen freezes, it locks down and cannot be backed out. The reverse buttons don’t work when this happens although you can see them on the screen trying to reverse the program. You must shut down completely. The problems are intermittent and vary wildly in intensity; sometimes going for 1 or 2 days with no issues and then descending into chaos for a week. What I have done so far: Used the Cox Internet Speed Test on my phone to check signal strength by running the test with the phone sitting on top of the box. 259Mbps download speed and 68Mbps upload is far better than what I should need to get a continuous noise free signal. Multiple box resets. Didn’t help. Multiple power cord removals and restarts. Didn’t help. Multiple cable modem restarts. Didn’t help. Swapped boxes with the one in garage. Didn’t help. Replaced HDMI cable from box to TV. Replaced the box with a new box from the local Cox Store (great customer service by the way). Didn’t help. Disconnected the Contour box and tested with straight wifi streaming services from Hulu, Prime, and Apple TV. Absolutely no problems with the Contour box bypassed and it validated that the Cox modem works, the wifi signal is good, and the TV is OK. We've had the Contour Preferred DVR plan for about a year. Last spring, we had to replace the box because it would freeze up and take up to 10 minutes to reboot. We lost a lot of recordings when we replaced the box. In the past few weeks, we've been having multiple issues. Pixelation issues including: video freezes while sound continues, video breaks up while sound continues, and both picture and sound are garbled. Playback freezes, then restarts Playback freezes, then on screen prompts to delete the recording (even if it's only 5 minutes into an hour recording) I've rebooted the box and checked to make sure the connections are tight. We don't watch shows live very oftern, but have noted very minor pixelation, but no where near what shows up on the recordings. This has been getting worse and is even occurring on some shows that were recorded about 5 months ago. I'm guessing the box is failing, so we've been furiously trying to get caught up on some series that we had been recording for months before I try to get a new box. Over the last 3 months, various shows and channels shows will just go blank for 20 secs give or take, or you will loose audio for the same length of time, flashes an excerpt of a commercial, then goes blank. This happens on all tvs, in different rooms and on different channels. Logically it indicates the tvs. Individual boxes are ok. Cables have been removed and/or replaced. On Contour I could not figure out how to cancel a series recording when there are no upcoming episodes listed. I tried chat with cox and when they couldn't find the answer they asked for my email and said they would elevated to Tier 2 and have someone email me the answer. I later figured this out thanks to a post on another cable provider's tech forum. To delete a series from the Contour series priority list simply scroll down till you are on the series you want to cancel then push the "D" button the Contour remote. You will then be asked to either Cancel Recording or Keep Recording. My husband recorded series of sporting events in specific years that will never be shown again and there are one time series that were recorded that may never be shown again and shows that were cancelled unexpectedly!. How can I delete these?? Seems that the shows can only be deleted if you can find the show and delete it from the show listing. There should be an option from the "series priority" section (in the schedules programs area) where you can delete the unwanted programs. can’t find Lakers games on channel 66 spectrum sports for Cox Las Vegas
Anyone else having a problem finding Lakers games to record? The Lakers should be playing on Monday January. 29th on spectrum, but I can’t find it. it’s not just the Rockets game. All games on channel 66 in the future are no longer listed. One of the only reasons I still have a cable subscription is to watch the Lakers. I have called Cox many time to complain that my DVR sound does not match the video. They usually just reboot my cable box and it is ok for a couple hours. Last week I scheduled an appointment for a technician to check out my cable signal. It was confirmed it was fine. Technician replaced DVR with new Cisco DVR box. The problem did not go away. Sound blurrrr
The sound on my tv randomly gets distorted resulting in blurred sound. I am using new cable, contour box with hdmi cable to the tv. If I wait a long while it stops. If I turn the power off and then back on or unplug the hdmi cable and put it right back in it fixes the problem. This does not happen on another tv using a mini box. I do not want to switch around boxes to the TV’s. The box I just turned in had color stream jacks on the back which I had to use to prevent the sound blurrr. The new box has only hdmi. Cox used to have a large button remote for their old Rovi boxes, but it doesn't work with Contour 2. My uncle really has trouble with the small close together buttons. Also, the voice control times out after 6 seconds, and it usually takes him longer than that to focus his thoughts and say what he needs. lost video but have audio
I'm sure it's about the fact that I hit Contour and scrolled to apps to open up Netflix but I got impatient and pulled up Netflix on my computer instead.
