Panoramic Modem and Asus Router losing connection
I've had this problem with previous modems and router models, but since I recently upgraded to the CGM4981 COX modem and the ASUS RT-BE88U this problem happens a lot.
I see the speed drop from ~2gb to ~30mb, so I reboot the router - no change, so I reset the modem - no fix, but now I have no connection between the modem and the router (router red light turns on).
I got it to work again the other day by leaving everything off for a day, reset everything to factor defaults, and eventually things got happy again. Its not practical to reset the router to factory defaults continually as I have 4 aimesh nodes around the house that then need to be reconfigured.
Is there something being cached somewhere in the COX modem?
As I said, I have had this problem in the past with my old COX modem and with different routers, but now its impractical to reset everything to factory defaults every time it happens.

First, the CGM4981 is a modem/router combo(AKA gateway) not a stand alone modem. That is what the G stands for. Do you pay for it or get it for free with your contract? If you pay for it, return it and get your own stand alone modem. I suggest the Arris S34 but see here for full list. Look under the section labeled "2Gbps or less" and where integrated wifi is set to "no". The Technicolor CVA4004 is another option and is sold/supported by Cox so you can swap it at a Cox store if you need to.
If you get the gateway for free, is it in bridge mode? Also when you have the problem, what speed do you get direct to the gateway? Remember, in bridge mode, every time you change what the ethernet is connected to, you have to reboot the gateway.

I found this post in your history. Looks like you have wireless TV boxes, so the gateway can't be in bridge mode. So instead you need to put the Asus router in AP mode. That will make it so the gateway controls your network and not your Asus router, but that is the only way to avoid double NAT which might be causing your issue.
If you want to wireless TV service but use your own router, I would suggest looking into another TV provider like Youtube TV.
