New Improved Cox Webmail - "NOT"!

Cox took something that was not a problem and made it into a problem. Cox managed to have just four emails appear in the Cox Email inbox. HUGE space at top of window is just blank. The COX Blue banner is HUGE sucking up more space. There are no cursors to move boundaries, no recourse except to shrunk fonts to size 000, go get a magnifying glass to put more email on the screen.

Any tech help here?

What tech help do you want? Not much anyone can do. The UI change is permanent as Cox has moved to a new platform. See here for the differences. If you don't like it, use a email client like Outlook or Thunderbird. Or better yet, switch to Gmail or Yahoo.

Tech help  - perhaps someone who knows how to solve the problem presented and could enlighten me, the lowly, nearly unconscious ungeeky one. Your response comes across consistently HIGH and MIGHTY (geeky). You do help - but do you have to cloak it as crumbs for the so undeserving foul smelling common Cox Customer. I think of "young Sheldon" and then I laugh. That's my perception, and SURPISE!! Perceptions are NEVER wrong.

You know very well that most of us diehard Cox email addressees have been using that address for several decades, and it is extremely difficult to let 10,000 (or more in my case) email senders to that account let be known that the Cox Email ship has been abandoned. But you know that, don't you? And of course, your answer is so Technically correct after all, - It's just no real help. And there we are.

Perceptions are opinions. Please keep yours to yourself. I was just trying to help and you try to insult me? Good luck.

I HATE the new COX email.  NO squares to check to erase multiple emails at one, instead you end up making the page grow larger.  Its very USER UNFRIENDLY!

I, too, just noticed this email format change.  It is AWFUL!!!  What happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?"  How can we switch back???  If not, I may have to get another carrier after 20 years!!

Esteemed Contributor III

Can't switch back. Rather then switching ISP, why not switch to a non-ISP email provider? That way you don't lose your email if you ever move out of the Cox footprint. Gmail and Yahoo are two free options and Proton is available if your primacy concern is security.

If you click the Settings gear icon in the upper right next to your avatar/initials, scroll down to List Options, and Check Boxes. You can then check all your emails to delete and click the trash can.

I would do this IF I knew how to move 15 years of emails to another service. This new interface is horrendous

I got fed up and moved to Proton Mail.  You can get one free email account to try or up to 10 email addresses with aliases for $5 a month.  They have great tutorials on how to move from your present provider, but 90% of Proton users just start a news email from scratch and keep the old and gradually switch over time.  I also can say that their support is the best, and they answered my first 3 support questions with thorough answers within 24 hours, and the 4th question within 48 hours.  I can't recommend them enough.

So a new wrinkle has appeared: I cannot view an email sent by the Elks.Org. This did not happen prior to the new format for Cox email. The email was modified by Cox screening it so that the following message appears:

External images in this email use an insecure connection. Those images were automatically adjusted to enforce a secure connection (https). Some images might not be shown.

Open original email in new browser tab.

Opening the new tab gives a blank image pretty much and is undecipherable. If anyone has Technical Help that can be understood and applied by a basic user so that they are able to view the original message it would be appreciated.

And, by the way, the users PERCEPTION is THEIR reality, not "an opinion".

Thank you!

If opening in a browser tab doesn't work, there's a problem with the original email. Opening in a browser tab means, opening the WEB SITE in a browser tab to open the email, it's not going through Cox Webmail for that, you are connected direct to the site, getting the email as they sent it.

Cox is modifying the original email (adjusted, blocked) within the OP's profile on the server.  If the link doesn't release these modifications of the original email, there is something wrong with the email program.

Moreover, these discrepancies didn't occur "prior to the new format for Cox email."

Incorrect. Webmail has always been capable of blocking images from an insecure server, I used to get that complaint ALL the time. Poster got ONE email that they cannot open, AND when you select the link, "OPEN IN A BROWSER TAB", it opens OUTSIDE of webmail, the link is a direct link to the web server the email is on. The link doesn't release anything, the link, is a direct URL to the web server and the Email is ON that server as a page.

Incorrect.  There are two different platforms.  The older version did block images but allowed you to click-to-view the image(s) in the same pane of webmail:

A Show Images button was followed with "External images have been blocked to protect you against potential spam!"

The software of the new webmail has a new feature to "Open Original Email in New Browser Tab."  I've never seen this feature (link) in the older version...and this new feature of the new software doesn't work.

OP did not get ONE email but got the FIRST email to deviate from the norm.  The new software on the server won't show the original email.  It's a bug.

No, Certain emails actually have a link in them that say "Open email in Browser Tab" In fact I have that showing in my mail client as well. Different emails have the links named differently, here's one from my Mail Client -

or like this -

You can have that showing in your email client as well as webmail, it's NOT a webmail thing, it's actually part of the mail message.

I use MS Outlook and not the COX Webmail. It works really well for me, and I have easier/better access to all my files. I set it as imap incoming/outgoing servers, SSL, TSL. Using Outlook may help with your frustrations, and you can personalize it the way you like it i.e. font size, color etc... Hope this helps..

Me too but I use iOS on my Apple devices. Much better than the webmail site!

This reinforces the theory that Cox wants to shut down the Webmail side of their internet services. It’s time to begin the long arduous task of migrating to another email platform. Since I’m fed up with crappy Cox internet speeds and poor customer service I’m looking into other ISPs anyway.

Either that or they are trying to provide something that fulfills what people want, in preparation of opening email up again to new users.

That makes sense.  I have been missing emails and having some blocked by COX  for over a year!  Now I am having problems with good email all the sudden ending up in spam!  I click the NOT SPAM 👍and it doesn't work, it STILL stays in spam--But COX not being able to rectify the problem of them blocking and not sending several sites through to my email is beyond aggravating.  I too have had COX email for eons and its a shame their email has gone so down hill!

Maybe a bit of both, or today I am an optimist.

BTW, My X'Wife says I am the epitome of the term "Engineer".

An optimist see's a cup half full

A pessimist see's a cup half empty,

An Engineer see's a cup 2 times larger than it's requirements are.

I would like to see their Tech support explain this. I will be reaching out to the state corporate commission. not only have i paid for the premium high speed internet and not received the promised performance, but like all big corporations, they are implementing totally screwed up soft ware and are incompetent at the highest levels. CORPORATE GREED.

EXPLIAN TO ME WHY I GET THIS ERROR WHEN I TRY TO LOG IN WITH MY MAC!

"CONNECTION ERROR"

"Service is not available right now."

I tried to attache a screen shot, but they obviously do not wish to be held accountable or see what the real errors are....its like they sold out to chinese.... so tired of treachery.

Clear your cache files and cookies, and then try to go manually to

https://Myemail.cox.net

I tested it on my mac with Safari and Opera. Both worked fine, and I am on the new webmail.

Additionally, They don't charge you for webmail, HOW can corporate greed even figure into this picture?

If you are talking about Internet speeds, what modem are you using and have you tested your speed with a computer connected via ethernet, since testing over WiFi is inaccurate.

If you want assistance in addressing your issues, there are several of us here that between us, we have DECADES of experience, and we will be glad to help, unless you are here to slander, cast aspersions, and kvetch.

I have the preferred internet which has been upgraded to 500 down/50 up. With the right equipment and settings -

https://www.speedtest.net/result/14968027172

Over WiFi. It can be donw, but I installed some fairly expensive equipment, a CM2000 Modem, and since the router I bought died, I went ahead and installed a RAXE300 Netgear. The test you see was done using WiFi 6.

Salad bars

You don't have to be clumsily charged for something to understand value.  You may have chosen Golden Corral over all other restaurants because its free salad bar is included in the price of your meal.  This would be more for your dollar.  If Golden Corral removed its salad bar, this would be less for your dollar.

Although most email service is free, there is a cost (burden) to update your digital responsibilities and lifestyle.  Curtis may have specifically chosen Cox because free email was included in the cost for service and...at one time...Cox had a more reliable email service.

I remember when Cox had newsgroups. So few people used them that there was barely a whimper when Cox closed them down. I think something similar will happen to Cox email. Slowly, less and less people will use it until it's a cost burden too great to justify.

Cox was probably ineffective maintaining the newsgroup so it didn't appeal to anybody.  Nobody is using it, so close it down.  Besides, the Forum would have replaced the newsgroup.  What will replace email?

Besides, the Forum would have replaced the newsgroup.

When I say newsgroup, I mean the file sharing variety like Usenet, so different then a forum. When Cox shut there's down people who still used it moved to 3rd party solutions. The same will happen when Cox "eventually" shuts down their email or outsources it completely to a non-branded solution like Verizon did.

Also hate the new webmail. Used old webmail for selecting large blocks, then deselecting individual emails from the block, then moving the large block to a new folder. Now, no can do.

Can you hold the Shift key while selecting large blocks?  This may take longer but at least all other email will rise to the top of the list.

Just because you don't know how to do it, doesn't mean it cannot be done. Add checkboxes, and select all.

Try asking a question decently instead of being nasty about it. I have had no problems at all doing everything I needed to do with ease. Try asking.

All of my Cox email accounts today have been "upgraded?" to the new wizbang OX platform and NONE of the passwords stored in my Computer work. I get  a response that"" the user name or password is incorrect. (LGI-0006). Of course, there is no where to go and get help. I tried "Agent" on the phone app text but no response (yet, only 20 minutes so far). Any ideas about the latest issue here? I wisely mirrored these accounts to gmail account years ago so at least I can see what is coming in (responding is the issue with tha as the email address is not in the senders address list:(

this is the worst platform! What did they do intentionally sabotage the email! I am trying to do business and this is a disaster! And how do you get around it? I am expecting contracts and offers for Real Estate and I can’t even open an email at times, Reloading times out all the time I can’t open an email without the dreaded spinning wheel I am so done with all of Cox Services if they don’t fix this problem quick!

try using a mail client such as Macmail or Outlook. Quit blaming someone for a free product you don't like. There are options available to you.

I quit using Cox for webmail a long time ago. I use Gmail for some things and dislike it intensely, especially on a PC. I use both desktop and web version of Outlook, and don't know how I'd live without it. I suggesting test driving some other platforms and then pick the one that you really like.

I can receive cox.net emails but can't send replies to them. I spent 7 hours on the phone with Cox yesterday, spoke with 10 different people, and none were able to tell me what the problem is. Brutally frustrating. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo are all working fine. Cox is a mess. As a CPA corresponding with dozens of clients a day, this is a gamechanger. I will be recommending that all my clients that currently use cox.net immediately switch to another service provider. Grrr Cox!

Are you using apple devices? If so, it's a known issue with them, it's a software bug, that causes it to communicate incorrectly when authenticating/sending email, it happens over and over very quickly, and then the SMTP server locks you out for 6 hours. The email sits in your outbox, and s attempted over and over, each time, the SMTP server resets the 6 hr lockout. The way to fix, delete ALL email in the outbox. in  ALL devices you use for email, wait for 6½ hours, and then test with a computer or device, (Not an apple device if at all possible). it should be cleared and work properly at that time.

Question: How do I turn off Cox spam filtering? Option is no longer shown under inbox tools.

Honored Contributor

 •

You can't turn off spam filtering.  Webmail that has been flagged as spam by an email security company will be routed to the Spam folder.  Unwanted email that hasn't been flagged as spam can be blocked with Filter Rules.
