Intrusive malware-like popups

Recently, upon accessing a site via a non HTTPS connection, I have had an intrusive malware-like pop up appear, 2 or 3 times now, saying that our TV equipment is oudated and needs to be upgraded, which is a crock, since it works fine. Cease these invasive pop ups immediately or we will be switching to Verizon. Especially if you reply with some automated BS and lock the topic.

It may not be Cox but like you hinted...malware.

Malwarebytes is a reputable, free program.  Adblock Plus is also a good browser extension.

I use UBlock Origin and MBAM Premium. These popups are legit and other people have complained about them in the past.

I searched 1 (800) 560-8131 and nothing Cox-related results.  I'm not testing the URL.

Does UBlock allow you to right-click the pop-up to block?

Haven't tried, but yes, it should be able to.

@JWH1995, this is a valid pop-up that customers receive when they are advised to upgrade their equipment. Can you please reach out to us on Twitter at @CoxHelp, visit us on Facebook, or at cox.help@cox.com? We'd like to look at your account services in greater detail. -Kevin M. How about calling the customers to inform them of this, instead of injecting popups into non HTTPS pages? That's really scummy and someone will lawyer up one day if that keeps up.

Why is the pop-up appearing on a non-Cox site ("non HTTPS")?  How are Internet cookies tracking our TV service?  If Internet cookies are tracing our TV services, how is it getting it wrong?  Is (800) 560-8131 assigned to Cox?  When subscribers do upgrade their equipment, why doesn't Cox update their accounts?

This begs more questions than answers.
