wireless device does not have a valid ip config - windows 7

lap top had been working with wireless acess with no issues.  2 weeks ago, truned on laptop and could not access internet.  troubleshooting came back with "wireless adapter does not have a valid IP configuration.  2nd and 3rd laptop, ipad and iphones have no issues connecting to internet.   Have been on dozens of sites explaining how to fix issue, and none of them have worked.  Also was on with Microsoft tech support and they did not help.    h\Has anyone experienced this issue and was able to resolve it.  any help would be greatly appreciated.

By chance are you using WEP encryption on your router?  WEP is unique in that the device has no way to check if you entered the key correctly so it'll connect even with an incorrect key however you won't be able to communicate to the router to obtain an IP address.  You could also try removing the wifi adapter drivers and re-installing to see if that helps.  Beyond that it may be necessary to speak to the computer maker for further assistance.

If the problem is just occurring on one wireless devices, then it must be a issue with that device. I would suggest trying to connect wired when you have the wireless problem. If you can get online wired, that rules out most software on the offending laptop. Then its either a driver issue or a problem with the Wireless NIC.
