Windows Live Mail client all of sudden not working

I have used the Windows Live Mail client for a long time.  It worked fine on July 23, 2014 and the next day - nothing.  I get a pop up window to log on using the pop.west.cox.net (POP3) and the username / password that hasn't changed.  I can log in just fine on webmail but not using my client.  What happened on or about July 23 / 24 that caused this and how can I fix it?

The regional servers will still route to our mail servers but are mainly replaced with just pop.cox.net for incoming. With the login window on Windows Live Mail is it displaying the full email address or just the user name when it prompts you to log in?

It is showing the full e-mail address.  I tried to change my default to be just the pop.cox.net but same result.  I can log into web mail just fine but using the same information for my mail client ends up in a no connect.

The login screen should ask for the User Name. The User Name is the first part of the email address, before the @cox.net. Try taking out the domain and let me know if that helps.

Stephanie, there was no difference.  Same result and same message.

Someone else was reporting a simular issue. IMAP working but POP not. Can you try switching to IMAP?

If you're still having issues with it, I see a lot of problems with Microsoft email clients solved by removing and re-adding the account in Live Mail. Make sure you do a pst backup of your mail and contacts before you do it just in case the data file gets hosed when you remove and re-add it. Instructions to do that are on MS's site, can find it easily enough with a search.

Something else I'd try is changing your password to a new password you have never used before to see if that helps.
