Wifi connection is continually cycling on and off on my new Macbook Pro. No computers are hardwired to the Cox provided/rented dual band router/modem. I simply do not have a computer that requires hardwiring. Some wifi devices in the house do not pick up the 5 gHz connection and some do. If 5 gHz is not seen, that device is connected to the 2.4 gHz signal. Independent speed test shows download of 54 mbps, upload of 6 mbps. Cox speed test shows 56 download, 7 upload. I am on the Preferred Internet Service. Please don't tell me to upgrade my connection- I will not pay more for what already seems to be a sub par product. Friends have upgraded and see no difference at all!
Really tired of having to turn wifi off and on in order for my device to connect. I would be interested in learning how to get on a different channel than everyone else in the neighborhood. From what I've read, this seems like a good place to start on finding a solution.

" I would be interested in learning how to get on a different channel than everyone else in the neighborhood."
Start off by downloading an app to your smart phone/tablet that lets you view exactly which channels all the wifi networks in your neighborhood are using, I prefer Network Analyzer.
You will want to use channels 1, 6, or 11 depending on which of those three has the least amount of networks in your vicinity. To actually change the channels, you need to access your router admin page via web-browser, it's accessed by navigating to 192.168.1.1 or something very similar, just depends on your brand of router.
As far as some of your devices not seeing the 5Ghz network, it's either because they're too far from the router or they're not dual-band, thus can only connect to 2.4Ghz wifi.
