Hello All,
Got a question related to COX internet services,
recently i switched from Century Link to COX and from the first day having issues with all wifi connected evices.. cell phones and laptops.
got 2 laptops, 4 cell phones and Sony Playstation.
Looks like every once in while the devices loosing connection and even worse is that you don't know that the device lost connection untill you open up a browser or a mobile app suchas facebook or whatsapp.
talked to cox technical assistance and they suggested to change the modem/router.
Anyone had similar issue?
will appreciate any help to solve this issue.
Regards
Roman

Here are two free WiFi scanners which will show you networks in you area, the channel they are operating on and the signal strength:
Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 - Acrylic WiFi analyzer - https://www.acrylicwifi.com/en/wlan-software/wlan-scanner-acrylic-wifi-free/
Android cell phone of tablet - WiFi Analyzer app in the Google Play store.
AFAIK, iOS doesn't support access to the WiFi radio so nothing is available for iPhones and iPads.
If your device running the app supports dual band, both will show you networks on both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
Run the app and walk around your home, pick the 2.4GHz channel from 1, 6 or 11 which is least crowded. 5 GHz channels shouldn't be too crowded so I doubt your will have to change that.
To change channel, log into your router, could be 192.168.1.1 but check your manual (or post model here), go to WiFi setup, you should be able to change the channel from there. Again post the make & model of your router / gateway if you need more help.

Allen,
Thank you for your help here, i did everything according to your instruction but once i change the channell from auto to 6, 11 or 1 the rating of this channell is dropping down immediately... not sure why. maybe 6 devices is too much for this router.
My router is UBEE DDW3656R
Thx

Then your wireless router is Single Band, as opposed to Dual Band.

Have you checked at all yet if wired devices are also losing connectivity when this happens?

Not sure why you signal should drop when you select a fixed channel. Did you use one of the WiFi analyzers to see what's happening in your area? What channel does the router select when in auto mode? I did find specs on the DDW365 and that's a single band 2.4 GHz router so you are limited to that band. A lot depends on your area, obviously, there will be a lot more interference in an apartment setting than a rural single family home. The UBEE should be able to handle a lot more than 6 devices, I don't think that is your problem.
ChrisL has a good question, can you test with a wired connection and see if you loose that at the same time? That will help isolate the problem.

That may help us understand better if this is a wifi or larger connection problem.

Thx

If it's also happening wired I wouldn't expect any changes to the wireless to help. It may be time to arrange for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.
