Why did we loose our local NBC station today?

Omaha COX customers lost our local NBC station today.  There was no explanation and of course the message that COX is sending to it's customers is that the station is being greedy not the Cable company.  These things do not happen overnight, and the fact that COX did not warn us that we would be loosing the channel shows how little they consider their customers.

Why didn't we receive notice that we may be loosing the station due to a pricing dispute?  Why is it okay for COX to charge me the same monthly fee if they are not providing one of my basic channels?

I have never considered other options for service in the past, but when you pay for a premium package you expect better customer service than this.

This cancelation of NBC is outrageous! for the high price I pay each month to Cox I expect NBC to be shown!

Looking an other providers now. If you ask me COX is the greedy one!

You notice no one from Cox has taken the time to respond to the either of the posts. Why, because they (Cox) really don't have a good reason, other than greed. My cable bill is outrageous, but I pay for what I have and expect Cox to do what needs to be done to keep programming on the air. I have already checked into Prism TV through Century Link, and it is looking better all the time, especially after this debacle by Cox. I assume there are not more posts on here since most Cox customers were not aware of this dispute until they turned on their TV's this morning. Cox is not the only show in town anymore, and they better figure that out in a hurry!

Since COX has dropped the NBC station today they should be saving a lot of money, which should be passed on to the consumer. It is too bad the consumer suffers over "greedy" COX. Everyone who currently subscribes to COX TV should be given a minimum of a 50% reduction in their TV monthly service charges. I certainly am looking at changing my service to Century Link. Cheaper and more stations for the same money!

Gray TV is withholding its programming because we won’t agree to a price increase that’s 400% higher than what we have been paying them for programming that is free over the air.

Agree.  Apparently some Cox markets have lost ABC as well!  Really!!!  Both ABC and NBC are holding Cox hostage for higher fees.????  I'll also be looking for a new provider.  Clearly Cox doesn't understand the concept of being loyal to their customers.  Their new mission statement should be:  "give them a lot less for a lot more".

"lose" = to come to be without.  "loose" = free from anything that binds or restrains.

In this instance, a case can be made for either word.

BTW, better read the User Agreement.

No NBC or local WOWT News/Weather when I returned home from work this evening. No notice at all. Hard to believe that programming can't continue during contract negotiations. I do realize as others have posted that my cable bill for just regular programming (no movie channels) and internet has almost doubled over the last 4 years and now a disruption of service for a local station which I could watch if I had a TV antenna. Will be pursuing a bill adjustment.

I can't believe this!!!! What a crock. Cox is doing this and we are not happy that they are starting to pull stations...local ones to boot!!! Our rates increase and Cox just cuts stations! We won't stay with a company that does that locally! Too bad for Cox. I had bet that you would be better than Qwest...my dumb thinking on this one. I hope that WOWT stands it's grounds. Cox has seen it's last days of support in Omaha!

You do? You think it's OK to ask for a 400% rate increase when their channel is FREE with an antenna? It's gotten so bad that many TWC cable systems have added a line item on their bills - from $2.75 to $3.50 - just to show how much those channels have started charging.

Lets be honest here: 400% sounds like a lot, but we are talking pennies, nickels and dimes here, (e.g. 10cents to 40cents), not dollars per subscriber, which Cox will end up passing on to all the customers anyway.  Then there is the Ad revenue, where Cox inserts their own commercials into the broadcast, how much is that worth?

Cox is adding a billing line item for "Broadcast Television Surcharge" on the monthly bill, that currently is just $3.00/mo for all the Local TV stations.

The real crime is ESPN which Disney is now getting over $5.00/mo out of every customer, where is Cox here in protecting the customer.

We signed up for Cox just three years ago, and our bill has never been what they said it would be.  Not only has our bill never been what they said it would, but it's gone up sixty bucks in three years; and now I'm still paying way too much for a cable bill and not getting the channels I want.  WOWT is one of the most watched channels in this house, and this especially hurts with the Superbowl (a very popular program in this household) coming up.  I've had it up to here with their bologna and I think it's time I go look elsewhere for services.

Hi kellyr,

It’s against the law for Cox to carry WOWT without an agreement.

We have been Cox customers for almost 20 years, but this is the last straw. We pay almost $200 a month for tv, internet, and phone, but unless they make some changes and get back WOWT in the next couple days, we are changing providers. This is totally inconsiderate of the cable company and it is ALL about money of which the cable companies have plenty.

I will be talking to other providers immediately and hopefully we find one that actually treats the customer like they are a customer instead of acting like they are the customer.

Either give us back our station or we are gone forever.

I agree. Another long term customer looking at other options. WIBW is our main channel for watching tv at night. My family will not miss Big Bang Theory! Our rates go up yearly but can not have the channels we most watch.

A) A rise from 10 cents to 40 cents is only a 300% increase. A rise from 10 cents to 50 cents would be a 400% increase. B) Cox isn't allowed to insert commercials into retransmitted OTA broadcasts, only into cable-channel telecasts. OTA signals must be retransmitted "as is." Do you have any specific instances of Cox inserting commercials into its OTA retransmissions?

Kinda tends to go against your "nickel and dime" argument above, huh?
