Hello, I have had the Ultimate Internet tier for quite awhile now. I have noticed that since the speed increase in my area a couple months ago my download speeds are either very fast or very slow. Yes, speed test results show high, but when I actually download files I download about 1/4 of that speed making speed tests an inaccurate test. I should also note that it does not matter the source/protocol that I am downloading from.
I have tried the 'standard' fixes (resetting modem, router, restarting, removing router, shortening distance, etc). In addition, sometimes I get very fast speeds. What I notice happens is that I lose my connection (nothing I do) and the modem resets and then I get very fast internet connection which will last a day or 2, then it resets again (again on its own) and comes back slow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few possibilities here.
One is that the 6120 isn't technically approved for Ultimate anymore, though that really shouldn't cause the resets and intermittent speeds. A 4x4 channel modem is just going to limit your top speed to somewhere below the 180-with-Powerboost that a 4x8 channel modem can get.
Another thing that might (let me emphasize that 'might') help is upgrading the firmware. Firmware upgrades are never a universal fix (and we try to discourage that idea in general), but there were some minor throughput fixes noted in the SB_KOMODO series between 1.0.5.1 and 1.0.6.8.
Finally, your modem signal levels are good and ping tests are good, but the system is tossing up a warning about your error correction rate. I rarely see that. That could indicate a noise problem, but the kind that we'd need someone out there with a meter to find.

First, thank you for the quick response (and for a non-generic response)! Second, how can I request a firmware update for the modem to see if that fixes the issue? From what I understand those are done by the provider (Cox). If that doesn't work, where can I find a list of approved modems?
I am really hoping this is not a noise issue because I recently had new cabling installed because of a noise issue which resulted in 2 new cables that hang outside my house from our second-story...

The error correction reading is just one possible warning sign, but unless there's a high number of recent T3/T4 timeouts in your logs or ours, it's within the range the modem can compensate for.
We can upgrade the firmware with your permission at any time, so long as you're aware that the modem will reset and be unavailable for a few minutes when we do.

You have my permission to update the firmware at any time.

Your modem has been updated however as Kip had pointed out with only 4x downstream channels to work with you're highly unlikely to achieve the new advertised speeds.
