Using Mini Box before cut off date?

Is it worthwhile to hook up and register the new mini boxes before the digital cutover date?  The cutover isn't until September, so if there is no benefit or it won't work, there would be no reason to register them now.  Thanks in advance.

If you want to watch some HDD versions of your analog channels, or some of the digital channels in your package, then YES.

Domino gave you the positives, but remember, you start your free year (or start paying) as soon as you activate the box.  If you can live with what you have now and activate in September, you will get a free year starting then.  If some of the features of the minibox are worth it to you, then by all means activate now and start enjoying.  I installed miniboxes for friends as soon as they were available in my market (in Jan with a cut-over in April) and they worked fine.  I don't know of any technical reason they wouldn't work now.

Hi Everyone,

It is important to activate the receiver as soon as you get it. You don't have to get one until you decide to but we are not recommending going more then a week without connecting and activating it.

Promotions will vary during the transition so what is available now, might not be available at a later time.

Is Cox going to post a schedule for the rest of the markets?  When will Arizona be getting the Mini?

The launch dates for other markets has not been assigned. We are advised at the same time as customers are. Please check your statement for any upcoming notifications.

Do they spoil?  Shoud I keep them in the freezer until ready to activate?  Seriously, is there a technical reason to activate immediatly or just so Cox can start billing for it.  Or worse, Cox starts billing immediatly regardless of if it is activated or not.

I found that out.  During the promo period, I requested 2 miniboxes.  I was told, in no uncertain terms, only the first is free, others at $1.99/mo from day one.  Finally, when cut-over was upon us, I received an ad with my bill saying "get two miniboxes free for a year", no conditions.  Called the number included in the ad, asked since I received my 1st box, could I get a second free for a year as per the ad.  The rep was very nice and said he couldn't process it free for a year but would give me a credit upfront for a years rental then bill me monthly.  Fine, that works for me ... received and installed the box.  My next bill not only contained the credit but a $30 charge for "Self Install".  Nowhere did the rep tell me it would cost more than a years rental to plug it in myself.  Another call to customer service and they credited me for the $30 fee.  Bottom line ... if you wait you may get a better deal ... but you have to keep a close eye on everything dealing with Cox.

AllenP,

The mini box might not take the signal and boot properly if it's not connected right away. As far as the billing is concerned, it will vary depending on how you get your mini box. You can go into billing when you call to activate it but there are times where you will go into billing as soon as you pick up the mini box. Please email me at cox.help@cox.com with your account details if you have any billing or account specific questions.
