Upgrade DVR options
My DVR continually cuts out the audio and switches video formats even after I have disconnected the power cable and reset the box.
If I return this DVR will I be able to keep my videos stored on an external drive?
Will I be able to have the cox tech transfer my videos from my current DVR hard drive to my new one?
I have hesitated returning my current DVR for a new for fear of losing my stored videos.
Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot save or move the Programs to a new DVR, they are tied to the one DVR, even those on an External HDD.
Get yourself a TiVo Roamio, and then you can offload the local broadcasts to a PC or NAS, depending on where you are located you may even be able to move some cable channel programs off to a NAS or PC.
Add a TiVo Mini to extend the DVR to other rooms.
