Streaming Source throttling/blocking?

Ive noticed recently a significant problem with the throttling/blocking of various legal media sources.  How can I resolve this/who do I need to contact.

Cox does not throttle it's internet service, as they've stated many times before.

Could you share some data of this so called "throttling"? Congestion and peer saturation is different then throttling.

Also, what are you seeing they are blocking? When I had my newsgroup account, I was getting insane transfer speeds.

Streaming sources are functional at other locations/ISPs and are INOP while at home on COX.  If I turn a VPN on while on COX, streaming sources then function normally.

What kinda of data is needed?

Then why do the streaming sources function on other networks and while on aformentioned COX network with a VPN?  Seems an aweful lot like throttling/blocking to me.

So are you looking at the symptoms and drawing a conclusion? You don't have any data?

As for why something would work on one ISP and not another is because different ISPs have different routes and different agreements with bandwidth providers. A VPN would have the same effect, because your forcing the traffic through a different route.

So then tell me what you want for data?  Your aloof comment is neither helpful nor insightful.  What should I actually collect?

See here for a good example.

he's transferring files, how would I do that for streaming devices?

Well first, could you tell us more about what your streaming? Are you streaming something FROM a server or TO a server? Also, a tracert might show the different path and possible congestion in that path.

This will be my last post on the subject. Hopefully someone else can help you.

What are the sources that you are having issues with streaming?

Many of the sources on Kodi/Genesis.  On COX without a VPN, vs On COX WITH a VPN the latency increases by over 50ms without the VPN.  This is through a VPN mind you, it should inherently be slower through a VPN.  I'll have to try tomorrow on the other ISP.

@miahmouse

It might be helpful for starters to try and get some trace routes to the host you're having performance issues with both with and without the router in place and post here so we may look to see if there is any latency in the path you're taking.

how would doing this with and without the router in place make even a small bit of difference?

@miahmouse

By doing it both ways we'd have more information to analyze for potential problems.  It also eliminates the most variables as quickly as possible.
