Hi Spid6431,

You've asked a great question! We recommend using multiple layers of security to protect your network and all of the devices that connect to it. It sounds like you are interested in learning more about how to activate the security features of your wireless router or gateway modem. Because all routers and gateways are different, the steps to secure wireless networks vary. To further secure your home network, check out these tips.

We also suggest that you protect the computers in your home from adware and spyware. Be sure to check out our Anti-Virus Resource Center and learn the dangers of adware and spyware.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if we can help with other questions or concerns you may have regarding network security.

I read spid6431's post as asking how to set up "parental control" filters for the entire home network, not wifi security or antivirus.  A good way to do that is using OpenDNS replacing Cox DNS.  Start at OpenDNS website here: https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/parental-controls/

Once you create an account, change your router to point to OpenDNS, and setup your filter rules, you are good to go on all devices connected to your network, that includes PCs, tablets, smartphones, game console, etc.
