Search feature on Contour Record 6

does not work well.  If i try to search by the title of show, it works less than 25% of the time. It keeps loading but no results ever appear. So i have to search by Keywords, which means that the "results" list is much longer than i want or need. But even searching by Keywords will only work 50-75% of the time.  I can see that the show exists because i can find it on the Guide if i want to take the time to scroll thru several days of shows. But on the Search page, the loading takes forever and no results appear at least 25% of the time.

I have one tv and dvr. I have unplugged the dvr many times to reset it.  That doesn't help. I always make sure that i am typing the correct name of the show.

I was thinking about posting a "quirks" thread but Cox can do that for us.  Right now, i just want to know if anyone has found a way (workaround) to make the Search work better.  I have read the instructions. I know how easy it is to use the Search feature.  I enjoy the Record 6. I am willing to live with the quirks in order to get the benefits.

Ya better give some specifics, Yak. My search feature seems to be working fine. Title or Keyword. They both work.

There are no "specifics" to add.  My search feature works less than 50% of the time.  Domino, i am relying on you to come up with a "fix" for this problem.  I am willing to pay you overtime for working on the weekend.

I can't come up with a "fix" for a problem that I can't duplicate. That's why I asked for specifics. Next time this "50% of the time" problem arises, post what search you were trying that gave you the problem. For example, if searching for "The Hairless Gnu" episodes is fruitless, specify that.

@Domino, i just did a Search and it worked fine.  The process is easy.  When the problem occurs, the search keeps "loading" forever but never loads. No results appear at the right of the screen.  I was hoping that a forum member has experienced this problem and discovered a "fix".   If you have never experienced the problem, there is little chance that you would need to experiment to find a fix.  Domino, you have been helping people on this forum for years.  Your help is appreciated. Some problems are too small to bother a Cox technician on the phone (and using the forum i don't have to wait 15 minutes to be connected to a tech). Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I am enjoying the Cisco 9865 Record 6.  Lots of great features. I am listening to Pandora right now.

I hate to say it but, when I occasionally (less now than before) run into this problem, a reboot of the DVR always seems to clear up the search loading error. I thought that some combination of remote key strokes caused the box to enter this bad state. After the reboot, I normally wait until the search is successful for one letter before continuing with the search. Paranoia?

@Ed, thank you for that idea.  Instead of "typing" the entire title into the search box, i am going to type one letter ..... then wait to see if it loads.  Normally i concentrate on the search box before looking to the right and seeing that nothing is loading.

I just did 2 searches. Keywords and Title.   The Keyword search takes 1 minute for results to appear when i enter 3 letters. The result is poor.... far too many entries.  The Title search took almost 3 minutes for the results to appear after i entered 3 letters.

I have been too anxious.  I need to wait longer.  That length of time makes the search feature unattractive.  At least i now know that it works.

yak, I always search By Title for obvious reasons and just timed the search times. It takes about 5 seconds for a letter and maybe 10 seconds for 3 or 4 letters. Anything longer would appear to be problematic. Your search times are ridiculous! Only Cox knows why ...
