SAP and Closed Captioning
All of a sudden when I try to scroll through channels I get a message on the bottom of the screen about SAP and Closed Captioning and the channels do not change. I have both SAP and Closed Captioning turned off. How do I get rid of this message and be able to scroll down a few channels? Chatted with support and his answer was to unplug the cable box, wait 20 seconds, plug it back in and let the box reboot. Nope, it didn't work. So I am turning to others for help.

Do you see the message "over" the guide, or "under" it? If its under the guide, the box is giving the message, if its over, the TV is giving the message.
Next, do you actually see CC or hear SAP? Or is it just a message about it?
Also, what exactly is the message?
Last, have you checked for SAP and CC on both the TV and the cable box? You may need to find the original TV remote.

It doesn't happen when using the guide. I get the message at the bottom of the screen when I want to scroll through channels using the remote. It says SAP <off> press select to turn on SAP. Just below that message is the same thing but with Closed Captioning is <off> press select to turn on closed captioning.
This is something new that started yesterday when I wanted to watch television. The day before everything worked normally. I cannot get rid of the message. It is almost like I have to have SAP and Closed Captioning on which I do not want.

Not that I have heard. Almost sounds like the mini settings menu. Does it happen if you use the buttons on the box to change the channel? Wonder if it's something wrong with the interaction between the box and remote.
Also, does the screen look like anything you can bring up from the box? Or does it look like something is broken or glitched? Does pressing select actually turn SAP on and off?

Are you using the Up and Down channel buttons on the Cox remote while scrolling through the channels? What model cable box is connected to your TV?

It doesn't matter whether I select both to turn on. Nothing happens and I keep getting the message.

I have always used the up/down buttons that surround the select button. I don't know the model box but it is just a few months old as the other one quit working. I am handicapped and trying to find the model number is not something I can do.

I'm not sure if these messages are being generated by your TV or by the cable receiver. Please walk through the following steps.
Press the Settings button on your Cox remote control. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight Guide Options. Press the right arrow key and then the down arrow key to highlight Closed Captioning. Press the right arrow key, and highlight Closed Captioning Status. Make sure there is a dot (circle) next to OFF. If the dot is next to ON, press the right arrow key, highlight OFF, and press Select. Press Exit to close the menu. Was Closed Captioning turned on?
Next, press the Settings button on your Cox remote. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight Audio & Video. Press the right arrow key, and highlight Audio Settings, and then choose Audio Language. Is there a dot next to Primary, or is the dot next to Alternate (SAP)? Highlight Primary, and press Select. Press Exit to close the menu.
Do you continue to get the messages at the bottom of the screen after walking through these steps?
