Really bad download speeds with marginal upload speeds on Ultimate package.

My internet connection has been absolutely great up until sometime last week.  I would regularly get close to if not more than the specified speeds in my package.  Lately, regardless of the time of day, I will get download speeds around 1-2 Mb/s and upload speeds anywhere from 1-20 Mb/s.

I don't know when it started, but the maintenance tickets show that we've been chasing a noise problem in your node for a few days now. Those things can be tough to hunt down.

It may be random until we have it isolated. One minute you may have no packet loss, the next minute you may have >10%.

I upgraded your firmware to give you a few (very minor) RF and throughput adjustments that came after 1.0.6.8, but that won't have a major effect. With something like this, there's no definite way to give an ETA. Sometimes it may be a quiet and sporadic RF source that takes a few days to triangulate, other times it may be so obvious we can cut it right off the network like an infected limb. We're working on it, though.

Thanks KipK!  It's not back to normal, but it's definitely better after the firmware upgrade.  Is there anything that I can do on my end to help isolate the problem?

I am experiencing exactly the same problem in Garden City, KS.  I just noticed it tonight when I tried to watch Netflix.  Speedtest.net is giving me sporadic, inferior results, ranging from 3 down/6 up to .35 down/3 up.  I finally reached a tech support specialist who had me ping cox.net.  I'm experiencing roughly 1% packet loss.  This is the first time I've noticed any sort of trouble with Cox internet in about five months of service.

Any chance you could login to your accont at http://www.cox.com and try the speed test under Internet Tools and see how your results compare?

Hi Chaianne,

In order to see your true speed, we need to eliminate as many CPE (peripheral equipment) as possible. Can you bypass your router and any splitters, running the cable directly from the wall to the modem, and from the modem into the computer? After this connection is made, you may need to restart your modem and your computer and then run another speed test. Please let us know the outcome.
