ReadyShare in Netgear CG4500BD gateway - Mine works great!

Hello,

I have Cox and I purchased the CG4500BD, with a USB port.  I attached a USB external drive, one that had it's own power and did not replay on USB port to power the drive, and it worked right away.

I was able to access the drive from PC, Mac, and Android devices immediately.  Granted, there are limitations, like I cannot change the hostname or sharename, but seeing that this is just a temp space to put stuff until I decide where I will store it permanently, that's all OK with me.

I did not have to email or ask anyone to enable my USB port, it came that way.  I understand Cox does not support this, and I think that is a wise decision because if they did, then everyone's files, and loss or corruption of them, and people's lack of backup routines, would all fall on their plate.  I am sure it would be a pain if Cox, who provides our Internet, would then become responsible for all of a users files, so I agree that they offer it as a NON-supported option.

David

PS - Is the USB port USB2 or USB3, I cannot seem to find documentation either way.  Even if it was USb3, the network speed would reduce this anyway, but I was curious.

The CG4500 Gateways should be USB 2.0 based on their manual.
