Questions on the Mini Box
I have read the flyer send with my cable bill regarding the "All Digital FAQs" and still have questions I'd like to see addressed:
1. What happens to existing TV pictures if I don't get the mini box?
2. If I have 7 TVs not connected to a box currently, am I to understand that I will be charged $14/month ($98/year)? Could you explain why I would do this versus going to another service provider? Please don't say it is for better picture quality. Also, please don't say for more channels - for most families, having multiple televisions means you have children who are interested in Noggin/Sprout/Etc. and thus the channels you are providing are not meaningful. This seems to be about revenue.
3. The flyer states, "...the first group of channels will be moving to a digital-only format and require equipment, like a mini box, for viewing." This seems to imply that other, non-Cox equipment can be used in substitution of a Cox mini box. Please provide information on such alternatives.
4. There seems to be some confusion as to whether there are any "activation fees". Please clarify.
Thank you.

1. Once the transition to all digital is complete any TVs that currently receive their signal direct to set will stop working. The mini-box now being offered is the lowest cost alternative to keeping access to signal on those sets.
2. This transition indeed will lead to better picture quality and more channels. Currently no other TV providers offer a direct to set option like we currently have and thus require boxes of some kind in order to receive signal. We've enjoyed having this competitive advantage for quite some time however the time has come to make the transition to prepare us to be able to provide more service enhancements.
3. Other equipment can be used in lieu of the mini-box. Traditional digital/DVR boxes are available however they are more full featured and cost more. Another alternative is to use a Cable Card enabled device such as a Tivo for example. Cable cards are $1.99/mo. just like the mini-boxes however you may receive more feature benefits with this configuration.
4. No activation fees for mini-box installs.
