problems viewing movies played from DVD player

Hello everyone,

I'm having problems viewing movies that are played in the DVD player. This player is about 7 years old and is your basic run-of-the-mill player; the TV is standard def & not flat screen (it too is older - about 6 or 7 years) and the DVR which I just got from Cox a couple of months ago.   My current configuration is having audio and video cable running from the DVD player to the TV. The coaxial cable runs from outside to the DVR, then to the TV.  I thought this would work as I've talked to several people about this and this is their answer. If this connection is correct, what do I do now - change channels on the tv or set up the DVD player so that the DVR remote can control its functions too?  I'm lost and so frustrated.

Thanks!

You connection is a valid connection type.  It is my preferred method as it keeps the DVR and the DVD player separate from each other.  This means that issues with the DVR will not affect the DVD and vise versa.  At this point you want to test your DVD players connections types out. Switch the RCA yellow red and white connections over to the DVR.  You already know the DVR works and gets picture using the coaxial cable.   So if the RCA cables are not working with the DVR then you know it is not the DVD player but the cables or the TV.  Or if the DVR works with the RCA connection then you know you issue is with the DVD.  Then depending on what works at that point you test It against more items that you know work to further refine your answer until you have just one item that could be the issue.

Update the post with the outcome of the troubleshooting above and we can provide more guidance.

Hi Mike,

I tried using the audio/video cables I had to see if audio and video would show up on the tv from the DVR; it didn't. So, that told me the cables were no good. I went and bought audio cables and a s-video cable. I used that between the DVD and TV, but the movie still didn't show up on the tv. I then went to the tv itself, and changed from cable to s-video, and the movie showed up.  It may have been I needed to change the option on the tv all along. Anyway, it works.

I appreciate your quick response. Thanks!
