Power on doesn't turn on TV

I have new Explorer 8300HD dvr with URC-8820-Cisco remote connected to JVC LT26X575 TV. All seems to be working fine except for the following: When I push and hold the POWER button on the URC, the dvr and TV both turn off. If I push the power button again immediately, the dvr and tv turn back on. However, after turning off, if I wait a few minutes, only the dvr turns on, no matter how long I hold the Power button. (The TV button on the URC does blink but nothing happens.) If I use the remote of the TV, it turns on right away.

There are several codes for JVC in the 8820 setup guide. I have tried them all. Some do not work and are clearly wrong. Several work but all give the behavior described above.

Before connecting the dvr, I used an Explorer 3250HD Set-top box with URC7820 remote. I did not have to use the TV remote to turn on the TV.

Any idea how I can turn on the TV with the dvr remote?

Hi  terryfrommesa,

When you are pressing the power button, how long are you holding it down? If you hold down the power button for 3 or more seconds, it turns into an "all on feature." This means that all entertainment devices that are programmed to the Cox remote will sequentially turn on or off. For example, if you have the remote programmed to the TV, cable receiver, and the TV and all devices are turned on; by holding down the power button, it will turn all three devices off and vice versa.

The most successful code for your TV brand is 1253. Have you tried this one? With all devices being off, press and release the TV button, then press and release the power button. Let us know if this works.

I had already tried code 1253. That was the first one that worked somewhat. Later I tried several others but none were better.

I am certain I am using the all on feature correctly. I push the button for several seconds and I can see the buttons for the cable and TV flash, but only the dvr comes on.

As I mentioned above, with code 1253 and others (1601, 1774, 1923, and 2271), if I press and hold Power both dvr and TV turn off. If I press and hold power again within a few seconds, both come back on. However, if I wait a few minutes or longer, the TV does not come back on even though the TV button flashes. Also, if I push the TV button followed by the Power button, the TV button flashes but the TV does not come on. If I use the remote from the TV, the TV comes on.

Not a huge deal but inconvenient. And the previous cable box and remote did not behave this way.

terryfrommesa, I feel your pain. I had a similar issue with a surround sound system. The thing with remote codes is that they are supplied by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer hasn't published a 100% compatible code for your model of TV there is no guarantee that the remote will provide 100% function control. This is true for any All-In-One remote. I suggest contacting the JVC Customer Care Center at (800) 252-5722. Explain what's happening to rule out that it's not something going on with the tv and request a 4 digit code.
