Popup password box (outlook)

Why am I asked over and over to put in my password in email (outlook---pop account) even though I keep putting a check mark in 'remember my password' box?

When you say "asked to put in password", what exactly are you seeing on the screen?  Many of us have been getting a box that says "unable to connect to server; the server doesn't recognize your password. Please enter your password".  That message box is usually associated with problems with the system-wide email.... not just your computer.

And when you say "over and over", do you have to enter the password before sending every single email?  Or does it just appear once each day when you turn on your computer and check for email?

I'm familar with the msg. you are talking about;I tried switching from an IMAP account to a Pop account and have not seen that 'unable to connect' message since I switched; mine is a litthle box that pops up that ask for my password. After I put my password in, my emails will come through. No I don't have to enter on every email, just sometimes.

This problem is driving me crazy.  The popup box comes up asking me for my email password even when I'm not sending emails.  I can be typing a letter in Word (or this reply) and the box will pop up and my typing will show in the password box instead of my letter.  I've tried rebooting the computer and the problem went away for about 20 minutes.  My account is already set up as a POP account so no help there.  Doesn't anyone else other than the two of us have this problem?  I'm in Gilbert Arizona.

Rhondah, i got the "POP server rejected the password...." box this morning at 11am Phoenix time.  I was able to send email; not receive.  I was able to get the mail to work by hitting the GET MAIL button.  This does not always work.

We shouldn't have to do anything!  My pop-up box doesn't say anything except to enter my username and password.  Then I'll get the pop-up box with the message that I can't send or receive.  All I have to do is hit okay in the first box (since my username and password are already in the pop-up box) and all is well, until the messages resume 10 minutes later.  This problem went on for about two months earlier this year, then it went away.  It came back last week.

Rhondah, if the account is still working regardless of what action you take with the pop up it would sound like more then one account are setup in Outlook and one of them is causing the windows. The only time a account would attempt to login at a interval is with incoming messages. When you go under the account settings in Outlook are you seeing more then one server/account listed there for pop.cox.net or imap.cox.net or any other accounts listed?

No.  Just one account.  I do have to hit "Okay" in the pop-up box before I can continue.

Under settings delete the password and re-type it. Remember it is case sensitive.

Hi Rhondah, it sounds like an issue with the Outlook e-mail program.  As a test, you could remove the email account from Outlook and add it back; you could also try setting up your e-mail in another email program to see if it behaves the same.  I do not believe the issue to be with the address itself if you are able to login/logout of Webmail with any problems.

I believe its a Cox issue. I have had the exact same problem and followed all of the suggestions given.  Interestingly enough, my gmail account works fine with Outlook.  If I didn't have to contact so many people I would drop this email in a heartbeat.  Can't tell you how frustrating it is to see the bouncing Mail Icon at the bottom of the screen wanting a password input.....

I would suggest removing the Cox account from Outlook and re-add it. This shouldn't effect the email you have already downloaded into Outlook, it just refreshes the settings which can sometimes become corrupt. Also make sure you only have 1 Cox account per email in Outlook, or atleast nothing redundant. If that doesn't work, try a 3rd party client like Thunderbird (Be sure to use IMAP). Not that you have to stay with Thunderbird, but this would tell you for sure if its a Outlook problem vs a Cox issue.

I have been having the same problem for several weeks now along with significant delays in receiving emails (both problems vary in frequency but have never gone away). The email delays have caused huge problems for me.

I agree with @indebtedtomsu1  -- it is a cox problem and it isn't being resolved. I also agree that I would get rid of my cox.net email address if it wasn't such a massive effort to change the email address with so many contacts.

Extremely frustrating that it has gone on for so long without resolution.

Hello Gcl,

Are you noticing any issues accessing or receiving emails at webmail.cox.net?

YES.  Whenever these issues of not being able to log in to Cox from Outlook occur, I cannot access my cox webmail.  In addition, some of my emails are showing up hours late in the webmail. I suspect the problems are related.

It is painfully clear that it is not a problem with Outlook, Norton or me,  When I cc my gmail address, emails arrive there on time.

I will send an email, but I already have an open ticket with your tier 2 support.  It has been open for at least 2-3 weeks with no resolution.  I've called tech support about this problem several times.  My frustration level with Cox is through the roof.  I use my cox.net email address for work (although I have Cox business internet, I kept the residential address to avoid the confusion of changing).  This is costing me business..
