Overpaying for Internet Speeds that are DISAPPOINTING!!!

Hello, I am a cox internet customer. I have had Cox for almost 6 years and have had the premier package this whole time. Started out paying $60 now I'm paying $78,the price increase SUPPOSEDLY helps keep up the speeds. I am using a motorola surfboard SB6182 modem and a netgear n300 router. Both should be able to handle the speeds that I pay for according to the cox website. I have ran several net speed tests over the last month, my download is around 5 mbps and my upload 6 mbps. WTF!!?? I would love to know why this has been like this. AND IF NOTHING IMPROVES IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS I AM NO LONGER GOING TO BE A COX INTERNET CUSTOMER IF I AM JUST GOING TO GET ROBBED OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY.

@Extremely Unhappy Cox Customer

The N300 was an OK router back in it's day however it's really only good for up to about maybe 60Mbps under ideal conditions.  The harder you try to push it over that threshold the slower your speeds will get.  I'd suggest connecting a PC with a gigabit Ethernet port directly to the modem and seeing what your speeds look like with that configuration and go from there.

Have you tried bypassing the router and going direct to the modem? Also, what speed or plan are you paying for? Both your modem and router are a bit long in the tooth IMO. About 2-3 generations old. Need the best equipment to get the best performance.
