Outlook constantly asking for email password

I have 5 pop cox accounts in Outlook.  About 10 times a day it will ask me for the log/pass.  It's always the same....for whatever reason Outlook is timing out or cox is not getting my credentials. Sometimes O will ask for only 1 and sometimes it will ask for 4 in a row.

It's been going on for months.

With that many accounts configured I wonder if there is a little confusion going on with the setup.  I'd suggest checking the account settings in Outlook for each account and making sure the username and password for each account matches to the corresponding email address the account is setup for.  Also make sure that the username does not have "@cox.net" on the end of it.

Thanks for the reply.  This is not a new problem and I have thoroughly checked the creds.

Also, this is intermittent.  It does not happen all the time.  If the creds were wrong they would never work.

The timeout in send / receive is pretty generous too...I think I have it set for 1:30.

It happens with each of the 5 accounts.  Not every account is affected every time...but no account seems to be immune.

Also happens with my wife's Outlook and she only has 2 accounts.

If anything, it is annoying.  Not really a big deal but I'm taking another shot at figuring this out.

Could be a registry problem with Outlook. To make sure its not a issue with the server, maybe try Thunderbird, or some other email client and see if the problem persists.

Also, do you use IMAP or POP3 for the email type?

Last, what version of Outlook do you have?

POP3 and Outlook 2013 via Office 365.

Maybe i'll try a repair.

Actually I re-read your second post and noticed you said your wife was having the same problem, is that on the same computer or different computer?

On top of the repair, Microsoft also has a .PST repair tool. See here.

If its 2 computers, then it is some what unlikely its a outlook/PC problem. Those tools can't hurt but I don't think it will fix the problem. Do the 2 computers share the same Anti-virus?

Also, is  there anything you can do to force the problem to occur? For instance, rebooting the PC or closing and re-opening Outlook?

No I can't force the problem.  It just 'happens'.

AV is MS security essentials, SuperAntispyware, and CCleaner.  All 3 processes are running.

Same issue here as ChrisPbass & Bizaddy . Has been happening for months. I don't know why moderator is pretending this is a new issue. Some research on this very forum with IMAP or POP or Outlook will yield plenty of results with the same symptoms reported. But Cox and their employees continue to pretend it is the user's fault. What's next moderator? Ask me to power off/on my CATV box because I am having POP3 connection problems? I have been told to modify connection latency , to dump the east/west virtual regional name as it was no longer supported. I have re-installed Outlook, I installed Thunderbird. Same outcome. I have the same problem with Cox POP on another PC with a different version of Outlook 14.0.7143.5000 (64 bit) It fails to authenticate about 20 times a day. Some days less and some other days (rarely) no failure. I have been in I.T. for almost 20 years and I know without a doubt that this issue is not user related. In truth, I just live with it. My contract has another 9 months or so. After 25 years, I will dump Cox like an old tranny on the freeway , never to come back.

I agree with previous post.  This has been happening on Cox for several months, forums are full of these complaints yet the answer is always that it must be the users issue.  More of an annoyance than anything but I have to close outlook to get it to go away.  I am a network engineer with more certs than I can count.  Problem is at Cox.  Getting old...

Almost non-stop error today. Outlook constantly prompting for password. Big waste of time. After months of the same, Cox is still unable to resolve this sporadic authentication issue.

Greeted with it this morning and it's popping like a groundhog during an earthquake.

Maybe we can make this the longest thread in history!  fun for everyone!

I have had the same problem for months. Also at 6-9am, 11-1pm and 4-7 pm I am getting dial up speeds. It is taking 4 minutes to load this page. I've had cox techs out 3 times. Can't find any problem.  The node is overloaded with people streaming video.Ironically I just got an email from cox-What are you going to do with all the extra speed cox is giving you? Why I am going to have my state senator come over to see how great the extra speed is helping for the extra money cox keeps getting.

Pretty bad indeed this morning, about 2 in 5 attempts seem to result in a failed authentication. I have seen it worse. Then for the last 30 minutes, it seems OK again . Will try to post frequency of errors regularly.
