Mute button on minibox remote does not function for my RCA DLTK133R TV

I used the code search method (Method B) to program my minibox remote (Cisco URC-2220-R) for my RCA DLTK133R TV. This is a new 13" Clear LCD HDTV packaged by Digital Stream and was purchased on Amazon -  http://tiny.cc/fv6day

All of the functions work except for the Mute button. I have tried programming another minibox remote used on another minibox for a different TV and it also had the same problem. And, just for completeness because this is a strange sequence, if I mute the TV (either by using the RCA remote or by setting the volume to 0 using the minibox remote), turn off the TV, turn on the TV, and then try to turn off the TV again, the TV will not turn off until the volume is changed.

I realize this is a weird TV but could Cox check whether the Mute button remote setting is correctly set up for this particular TV?. It would be nice to use the Mute button rather than lower and raise the volume. Thanks.

Try the Direct Code Entry (Setup Method C) to enter a code.  I found the following codes for the RCA DLTK133R:

0047
2434
2932
3577
3717
2746
3382
3332
3895
3636
2855
2183
3147
4035
1385
1670
0090
0051

Hi Ed,

Please let us know if any of the above codes solve the mute button issue!

Thanks for your responses, Bruce and Becky. I did try all 18 codes for TV Brand = RCA in the Remote Support UEI Code Finder prompt without any success. It turns out you don't have to enter TV Model Number = DLTK133R in the prompt, just TV Brand = RCA.

So I went back to the Code Search method, which takes about 150 blinks of the POWER button (maybe discrete code searches?) over 8+ minutes before the TV turns off and is set up. This enables the Volume buttons but not the MUTE button.

Cox really needs to fix the remote programming for my TV and activate the MUTE button. Please?

Hi Ed,

How do you have the mini box connected to your TV? HDMI? Have you been able to successfully program the remotes for the other two mini boxes you have set up? If so, does the mute button work on either of those two remotes? (After each remote has been programmed to control the TV it connects to, of course.)

Hi Becky,

HDMI, yes (easy setup for Sony and Samsung TVs), mute works on the other 2 miniboxes. I even did a Self Test to make sure the minibox had the newest software update and switched remotes to make sure it wasn't a remote problem. I guess it could be a minibox problem but I didn't want to switch miniboxes and  jump through all the setup hoops again on the remote with the mute problem just yet. Yesterday it took the better part of an hour to restore the volume controls :-(

I am going to try to contact RCA/Digital Stream to see if I can obtain the 4-digit device code for the TV, but am unsure that will happen since the company is in China. Are these 4-digit device codes standard?

Since only Method B - Code Search partially works (Method C fails on all 18 RCA codes), this suggests to me that there is a code associated with my TV but it is not a RCA code and it is not properly programmed for the MUTE button, only the Volume buttons.

Hope you have any further suggestions or could you please contact the Cox minibox software setup team. Thanks.

I was unable to get a device code for the TV from RCA. Again, are these 4-digit device codes standard? Or are they Cox-specific codes for the minibox? Becky or a Cox rep - please contact the Cox Software team and send this thread to them to see if a minibox device code can be properly mapped to my minibox remote MUTE button. As I wrote before, the volume buttons are mapped properly but not the mute. Please respond if you take steps to resolve this problem so I don't keep bugging you. Thanks.

Ed, I love your spirit but you're asking Cox to reprogram your remote?  I don't think that will ever happen.  How can that even happen?

A mass remote recall to add the RCA DLTK133R?  LOL, think about what you're asking.

A better option is for you to buy a universal remote for <$20 and set it up for all your devices.

Mark K, don't hijack this thread. If you read any of it, you would realize that I am not asking Cox to "reprogram your remote" or request a "mass remote recall to add the RCA DLTK133R." Cox provides UEI device codes that map functionality to the minibox remote. All I am asking is that they map the minibox MUTE button properly for my RCA DLTK133R TV

Again, that is an issue with the remote and has nothing to do with the minibox.

Stop it Mark K. Please get a clue about miniboxes and minibox remotes, since it's obvious you don't have either.

Cox Rep - please respond to my request and ignore Mark K.

Ed,

I've forwarded your information to our Product Team. The response from them can take a little bit longer. I'll let you know once I get an update.

You state you have 2 other mini boxes where the Mute button is working. Have you tried moving one of the working boxes to this TV? If not, I suggest trying this first to see the outcome.

Thanks so much, StephanieA. I really appreciate your response and promise to update me. I did try another minibox remote but haven't switched miniboxes yet because it takes so long for the direct search method to partially succeed. I guess I'll bite the bullet and try the minibox switch just to cover all bases. I'll get back to you on the outcome. Thanks again for your help.

StephanieA, I tried switching miniboxes without success. I still can't MUTE using the remote. I'm looking forward to a response from the Product Team. Thanks.

Ed,

We're still investigating. The most common code for RCA TV's is  0047, so please reprogram and test using this code. Does your original remote support the mute function? If the original TV does not support mute, then the Mini Box remote will not support mute.

ColleenD, of course I tried 0047 as well as the other 17 (!) RCA codes and failed. Of course my original remote supports the mute function. And finally, only Method B (Search Method) partially succeeded after 7 minutes (Volume controls worked) but the MUTE button was not enabled. For what it's worth, I observed that the TV displayed the MUTE icon after 6 minutes so something weird happened! All of this has been repeated many times with the same results.

Please have the Product Team (if there really is such an organization) provide a new code that enables the MUTE button for my TV. ColleenD, I appreciate your attempt to help and all the details of my effort to get this resolved are documented in this thread. Hopefully we can move forward towards a real solution.
