Motorola DCX3400 Cable Box and External Hard Drive
I just got a Motorola DCX3400 DVR box. I know that eSATA hard drives can be plugged into the box to add more storage for shows to be recorded. Are there any problems that anyone has encountered when connecting a hard drive to it?
In addition, does anyone have any recommendations for eSATA drives? I am looking at a Western Digital HD made for DVR expansion.

Thanks for assistance.

While we can't make any recommendations on what eSATA drive is best, we can give you a couple of tips about how the drive will function once you connect it to your DCX3400.
The most important thing to remember is that the eSATA drive will format once you connect it to the DVR, and any info stored on the eSATA drive will be deleted. If the eSATA device is moved and connected to different DVR or device, all content stored on the eSATA drive is deleted and cannot be recovered. However, the eSATA drive may be reconnected to the same DVR without any loss of data.
Once the eSATA drive is connected, scheduled recordings will be recorded to the device that has the most space available. You aren't able to pick which drive you wish to record to, unfortunately. Also, content recorded to the eSATA device is copyright protected and cannot be viewed on other devices. This is a requirement by the networks or content owners that produce the TV show or movie.
I hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

Looks like someone with a similar setup got it to work. Alot of it depends on your software version on the box.
