Modem resetting several times today

My modem has reset itself three times today.  And right now we are trying to monitor the weather via internet.  Is there a weather relation to these resets.  I'm in Patterson, La and I know of cox New Orleans Internet was down as well.  I just would like to know.  Having to use verizon wifi now to get information.  I have cable, just not internet.  Thanks.

There are a few power outages around you, but nothing serious. Its just light snow right? Could still be a service outage unrelated to power though.

One think you can check is the signal levels of the modem. You can find them at the webpage 192.168.100.1 unless you have a gateway, if so, please advise and I can give additional info. Post the signal levels here and that will tell us alot.

Besides that, do you know if you have a signal amplifier somewhere in your house? Sometimes when there is electrical desturbances in the area, it can be enough to flip the breaker on the outlet that powers the amp. That might be worth a check.

I do believe I have an amplifier upstairs and I'll try to check signal levels. Thanks.  Brb

Omg.... Even Verizon was intermittent.  The light is on on the amplifier.  I guess the fuse would be inside the box.  I was able to login to modem.  It was restarting during upload due to timeouts.  It had a signal of 30db when it came back on.  It was 27 mb when it was down.  On another observation.  It is in the 20's in my attic and amp. Box was freezing.  I wrapped it up in a cotton cloth to warm it up.  I am back up for now.   What do you think?

Could you explain this? If you mean your downstream power level is 30db, thats WAYYYY too high. Or do you mean wireless signal coming off your router?

I don't "think" temperature would play a role, and if they did, I would say colder is better. Operating temps for a typical PCT amp is -40 to +140 °F (-40 to +60 °C) And if the light is working, its most likly on and working correctly.

Can you copy/paste your signal levels now that your online through the modem? As long as the signal levels are within specs, I would take a wait and see approach. If it stays online and constant, maybe just pass it up as a fluke?

Found this on another forum. Someone else in LA said there upstream power level dropped alot, so maybe you meant your upstream was 30db? If so, thats a issue, and possibly related to the cold, but not the amp.

Actually I don't think it had a number looking at now.  The number I gave was power to noise ration.  It had to be.

Ahh, so you meant the downstream signal to noise ratio (SNR) in your previous post. You want it above 36, 35 is borderline, anything below that may cause problems. Key word is "may" so maybe give it a day? See if its slow, or problematic, and if so, then the downstream SNR is where you want to start.
