Got a new laptop for Christmas with Windows 8 and Outlook 2013. Downloading emails seems a bit unreliable--yesterday it wouldn't download even though there were emails queued that I could see online. Downloaded them this morning, but now emails older than the last two days seem to have disappeared. Is there a setting I need to adjust?

Hi Bobmc,
Does Outlook give you any errors when the messages are not downloaded? You mentioned you saw them online, I am assuming you are referring to our Webmail. The email that is missing, they disappeared from Outlook, or from Webmail?

Hello Derrick,
Thanks for the reply. I don't get any error messages from Outlook. Sometimes it shows new email and sometimes it doesn't. I just used Outlook to look for new emails and none showed up. I went to the server and there were several new ones, however. There were emails in my inbox a few days ago that are gone now--also not on the server. I did not have any of these issues with my old laptop (older version of Outlook).
What I'd like to do is simply download emails to my laptop and have them then disappear from the server. I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere in Outlook that is perhaps set otherwise, but I haven't been able to find it.

Bobmc,
It sounds like Outlook is doing what it supposed to do because you did not see the messages in Outlook as well as in Webmail. There is a setting to leave a copy of the messages on the server, which would allow you to view them in both places.
In Outlook go through these steps, click on the following:
Click the File menu
Go to Account Settings
Click the Change button (next to Repair)
Click on More Settings in the bottom right
Go to the Advanced tab
Make sure there is no check on "Leave a copy of messages on the server"
This will ensure when you download your messages into Outlook they do not remain in Webmail as well. Try sending a test message after that. If it is having trouble pulling the messages in, you may want to remove the account and add it back.
