Domino, I have an Cisco 8742HDC DVR located in 06410. It's nice Cox is doing a voluntary replacement but a real pain having to reprogram all series recording and loosing everything on the drive.

I am addicted to my DVR, so I appreciate how hard it is to lose recordings. If your DVR doesn't seem to be having any issues, you don't have to rush to exchange it. You might want to start watching some of your saved content, however, and record new content to a different DVR (if applicable). In most cases, we will replace your DVR with the same model.

...hopefully one that has been verified to not have the faulty HDD.

It needs to be the same model because of the way the hook ups to other equipment are arranged

Well, Becky, the DVR made the decision for me. Tonight all recorded shows disappeared ... the usage meter shows 100% free. It was 37% used earlier today. Had about 60 hrs of recordings we haven't watched. I tried a power down reset and customer service sent a reset to the box ... no luck. Guess I will have to take it to my local Cox store tomorrow and replace it. No recorded show play and scheduled shows don't record. At least it still functions as a STB so I can switch between the football game & Australian Open tennis.

Have you tried calling the number in the popup? Or is 877 751 8024 just normal customer service? Would be nice if you got a brand new DVR, like the Explorer 9865HDC. 6 tuners and 2TB HD.

I've called both numbers. The one in the popup offered to ship a replacement or exchange it at a Cox store. Normal tech support sent the reset then offered to schedule a truck roll to replace it. I would rather stop by the store than wait for a tech visit, even if they could schedule one for tomorrow there's always that 2 hour window of waiting around. As far as what box they will replace it with ... neither could say, whatever they have in stock. I do know it won't be a 6 tuner device ... I only have a 2 tuner one now.

Why not? Cox rented out a bunch of defective hardware that caused lots of people to lose everything recorded. They should be willing to swallow the couple bucks a month to upgrade for the inconvenience.
BTW, how much do 6 tuner DVRs cost above 2 tuner DVRs? Also, do they only work when used with client boxes? Or are all tuners available as a stand alone receiver?

The 6-tuner DVR is $7.00 more per month than 2-tuner DVRs
$8.50/mo.
$8.50/mo.
$8.50/mo. + $12.99/mo. DVR service fee
$8.50/mo. + $12.99/mo. DVR service fee
$8.50/mo. + $19.99/mo. Record 6 DVR service fee
$1.99/mo.

So the DVR is not more expensive, just the service cost more. Would a 6 tuner DVR work without the Record 6 DVR service code on the account?

These boxes function as a standalone DVR as well as in a whole house setup. Of course, you must subscribe to the DVR service. The extra $8/mo wasn't worth it to me for the additional 2 tuners.
I don't think Cox will give me a free upgrade to 6 tuners and wave the additional fee I did receive a followup letter, via snail mail, offering a free On Demand movie worth up to $5.99 for my inconvenience. That's more than I expected.

Welcome to the real world where nothing is meant to last forever but I'm not trying to be mean. ** just happens in a digital world. Meh. It would be nice if the link worked properly and actually took you to where you can swap your current defective Dvr for the replacement cox is offering instead of running you around the boards.

Who said the link didn't work? Cox offered 3 methods of exchange, the first is the method offered in the link:
1. They would ship you a new box and you returned the old one in the same packing
2. Take your box to a Cox store and get a replacement
3. Make an appointment and roll a truck to replace the old.
I chose option #2 since my harddrive died and I didn't want to wait for an appointment or shipping. There was no "running around the boards". The whole process was very simple and took less than an hour ... the big inconvenience was loosing all my recorded shows and having to enter all series recordings into the new DVR. It would have been great if we had cloud backup for those two items but it isn't offered I know, ** happens, that's why we do backups.
