It almost never seems to fail that during a major national or local news event, we lose our modem connection to the network in our community here in Hampton Roads, Virginia. In our case, it means the loss of phone service also.
For example, soon after the Republican Presidential Candidate debate ended on September 16, 2015, we lost connectivity. Prior to that, following the mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina on June 17, 2015 we lost connectivity. And prior to that tragic event, we lost connectivity following a major news event. However, I'm unable to recall the event.
Why? Just seems like too much of a coincidence and possibly due to a bottleneck issue somewhere in the Cox network.

I'm not thinking the events are related myself. Do you happen to notice any change in the modem lights when this happens?

Hello Chris:
It's the typical way cable modem lights look when it cannot connect to the equipment upstream. All are out except for Power and Battery. Maybe one other light will flash indicating that it is trying to establish a connection but cannot.

That sounds like the modem is dropping although the signal levels look good. Feel free to reach out to us if you see it happen again and we'll be happy to take a look.

Thanks, Chris. However, each time it has turned out to be due to an "outage in my area".
