mail server settings

That information has actually changed.  The incoming mail server is pop.cox.net, the outgoing server is smtp.cox.net.  

Changed cox password.

Now outgoing email fails because of SMTP server settings.

Currently set at  smtp.cox.net  587 TLS (if available)

How do I get the prompt to change the password, which has happened before?

That can be changed within the account settings for the email programming your accessing your email with.  Here's some resources for changing  settings on a Windows PC:
