I noticed that my internet speeds have dropped dramatically over the past few days. I just ran the speed check on the Cox site and got 1Mbps download and 30Mbps upload. This is not acceptable since I'm paying for the preferred package.

I connected my computer directly to the modem and got the following speeds: 4Mbps download and 27Mbps upload. Really not much difference.

What kind of modem are you connecting to? Maybe its a gateway so your not fully isolating the issue by plugging into it.
Its weird the Upstream is so good while the downstream isnt. Could mean a issue just effecting the downstream, but since TCP needs ACK, usually any issue on downstream effects upstream performance as well. It seems more like saturation of the download..like something on the network is downloading alot, and slowing everything else down.

I'm using a Motorola SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable modem. As I stated in my original post, things were fine earlier this week and nothing has changed on my end.

Hello, Tiffany,
I hooked my laptop up to the same connection my desktop was using and got the speeds back I've had in the past. I then took your advice and plugged by desktop directly into AC power, bypassing the UPS. My speeds are now back to normal. Download speed now shows 33Mbps and upload shows about 17Mbps.
Thanks!

I think she meant plug the modem or gateway's electricity into a AC outlet, not the computer. But if that worked for you, great! Maybe the computer was eating up too much power from the UPS and causing the fluctuations she saw in the modem? Good catch.
