As the subject says I lose connection randomly . Sometimes it goes out for 2 hours, comes back on and works fine for an hour, then goes out for another hour. This has been going on for at least 6 months. I called Cox and they told me "Signal is fine, it's your equipment". Well the signal might have been fine when they tried it but it's not always fine and I can't predict when it won't be fine, so they are never gonna believe it's not fine.
Since they said it was my equipment I replaced EVERYTHING. I had a separate modem and router. I replaced both with a combination ZOOM model 5350. I have gone thru at least 3 network cards, 4 network cables, etc. and the same problem persists.
See photo of event log just since November 5. I think I have lost my connection A LOT more than this says, maybe it doesn't record everything:
I have been a Cox TV customer since 1992 and a cox internet customer since 1998 and would appreciate some high level technical help with this issue.

Definitely doesn't look like a fun mess that you're dealing with. I was having the same issue a few years ago and the solution was simply removing/ swapping out an old, damaged splitter. Not sure if you have a splitter along your line anywhere, but that might be something to look into. Although, it could be caused from noise along the line (usually needs a technician to track where the trouble is coming from) and is usually pretty common in older neighborhoods and probably the WORST in apartment complexes. You might want to use that "Send an e-mail to Cox" link over on the right and send them info on what's going on and see if they can ID any packet loss/ timeouts/ uncorrectable errors. Hopefully this helps a bit.

I live in an apartment complex so that doesn't help. I'm not sure what a splitter is, if you could explain that. I did some internet research and found out that if you have "IP Flood Detection" enabled in your modem settings, that can cause connection problems/problems with packets. I unchecked the box that said IP Flood Detection was enabled and immediately the problem was fixed. I have not had any connection problems for two days straight. That is the first time that has happened in around 6 months. Not sure if that will permanently fix my problem, but for now it's working fine.

The splitter would probably be inside the home if you're trying to give signal to the modem and a tv or cable box. (http://www.amazon.com/RCA-DH24SPR-Two-Bi-Di-Splitter/dp/B0018BQR84/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354146275&sr=8-1&keywords=cable+splitter) That's similar to what it will look like. It's great if deselcting that option worked for you, but it is a great defense against malicious attacks where people will flood your device with information that will use up all your bandwith and essentially shut the modem down. That's something you probably won't have to worry about, though. It's been stable for two days so I'd say don't worry about changing anything or looking for a splitter in the home until (hopefully it doesn't) the issue comes back.

There is another thread covering something similar to this as a known issue.
