just upgraded to Docsis 3.0 modem SB6121 and my internet speeds are exactly the same as with my 5yr old sb5100.
I am paying for 50Mbs but actual speed varies between 19Mbs and 32Mbs. What do I need to do to get what I am paying for?

I have the same issue. new docsis 3.0 sb6121 with the same download speeds as my 5 yr old model.
router is new, and does not need to be upgraded.

We've found and fixed a service code on the account. Please let us know if your still experiencing issues with your speeds.

Hi there, having the same issue. I had an outage (not on my end), and Tier 1 support had deleted my modem, and re-applied it.
I'm only getting half of my speed (should be 50 down, 10 up). I am getting 25 down, 5up.

The modem looks healthy when I check from here. Are you by chance testing your speeds with a wireless-G device?

Hi ChrisL,
No testing at all except with a wired computer connected directly to the cable modem.
Our only wireless clients are the smartphones and Blu-ray device. I never test on any wireless.
EDIT: When Tier 1 support removed it and re-applied it (just recently) they had it listed as an SB6120, not a 6121 and I was getting my speeds. Since then, it's been half of our 50/10 plan. Don't know if that helps or not. I do have an SB6121.
This was my speed test this morning: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4308628747
Thanks!

Was that test done this morning without the router in place? It appears the router has been attached to the modem for at least the past 7 days.

Yes, done without routing.

Something isn't making sense when I look from this end. Did you mean to say you're testing with a wired connection instead of testing without the router? Note that wired and without the router are not the same thing.

I have a laptop, so I can connect to the modem directly with a wired connection.
I was Network Admin for 12 years, so don't be scared using the big words on me, lol.
If you like, I can do the test again, connecting my laptop directly.

OK, so this time I powered off the modem, then reconnected my laptop directly to it. I didn't power down the last time.
Not only did I get a completely different IP address than what I have had, the speeds are back up where they should be. I hadn't power cycled since the re-addition of the modem.

Indeed the modem must be powered off when connecting a different device for it to work. I suspect the router may be an older model not suitable for the current speeds offered. If it's a wireless-G model most of those have a practical maximum speed of about 25-30Mbps.

I actually use Sophos UTM on an Atom mini-itx board, with a Sophos AP15 wireless AP (N) for my non-wired devices. Major upgrade on hardware next week for it. :D
It's a great firewall for home use and licensing is free for home use, along with Endpoint protection, IPS, AV scanning, etc.
