junk emails

What do you mean "set up new email"? Did you just get the email today, or did you just set up a email client (outlook?) with that email? I have not heard of Cox selling email lists. Its possible you recreated a email address someone else used before and the mail is meant for them. Is it generic spam or does it seem to be coming from a certain domain or common theme?

I've had Cox internet and email for almost 2 years now and I've only ever gotten about 3 emails in total, all from Cox. You may have used a previously known email like Health Edge said, or you have some kind of keylogger or malware on your computer.

Possible solution to this problem -- I'm the current owner of jrj (at) cox.net, and have had that email address active for many many years (in fact the reason I'm responding to this post is I received this forum string at that email address).

If Cox is allowing multiple people to register using the same email address, that's a systemic problem. I would recommend you don't use that email for your banking. I have this happen all the time -- I get other people's credit card bills, hotel reservations, flight notifications...I think it's a common email address people try to use.
