This looks to be a legitimate message. The modem that you've got cannot support the level of service that you're subscribed to.

depending on your internet package, you might be fine as is. I used the old 6121 modem for awhile with no issues (and getting full speed) despite them saying i should upgrade.
If you do upgrade, make sure you buy the modem. no need to rent from Cox. You can often buy the modems online for cheaper

I got the same. It's a legitimate message from Cox, but it is a scam that it's "free". It's not free for internet only subscribers (you need to bundle in order for the upgrade to be free.).
