I run Crashplan on my home machine and have a few friends that backup to me. About 3 months a couple of my friends stopped being able to connect to me and are now unable to backup to my PC. I opened up a case with support but got the typical run around about which ports are blocked vs. not blocked. My Crashplan port is definitely not blocked and I know works as other friends are able to still backup to me. In addition to Crashplan being blocked, my SSLVPN (port 443) is also being blocked from my friends house. My SSLVPN works just fine from anywhere outside of Cox's network.
Anyone know if Cox has instituted a customer isolation policy? The only difference between my friends that are blocked vs. those that are not is that those that are blocked are Cox residential customers too.

Can you do a port scan connected directly to the modem and post the results? And make sure its a modem and not a gateway. Sometimes gateways revert to being un-bridged.

Sure, but where should I do the port scan from? Connect my PC directly to my modem and then scan from a friend using nmap? Or connect my PC directly and scan a friend? Any port scans from outside of Cox's network successfully shows what I have open. The blockage only appears to be from one Cox customer to another Cox customer. And only residential service too. One of my friends has Cox business and he backs up no problem.

More testing on my part. I attempted to connect to my friend, verified that his Crashplan port was open, and on my side, my gateway was reporting an incomplete ARP entry.
Additionally, I ran a IP scan, along with 4 or 5 known ports to check if they are open. All IP's were within my address space, but limited to a /24 subnet vs. the /21 Cox is using. Random IP's responded, but known of the report ports (443 & 8080 only) were open.
Last test, I removed my gateway completely and still was not able to get connected. Anyone else that has a web site or running access between friends (both Cos residential customers) having issues connecting?

This. If I understand it correctly the request to connect is inbound into your computer, so if you connect directly to the modem and have your friend do a port scan with say PortQry or some other prog and it doesn't work, then you know for sure it's not a network issue. Just make sure the program is operational that would be using the port, and maybe even test it by having your CB friend try to connect at same (roughly) same time. You can also try a external port scan site like MxToolbox but I find them sometimes to be inaccurate because of firewalls before it even hits Cox.

When you say gateway, do you mean technically, or the term used for modem/router combos?
When you say "my address space" do you mean the subnet of your public IP? Or do you use/own multiple public IP's? If you were scanning random IPs for those ports it's unlikely anyone would have them enabled/forwarded, so that may be a false negative.
Strictly speaking, running a website on residental service is against my understanding of the TOS. How one defines a website vs a server (like FTP or gaming multiplayer) is debatable. But in general, try to avoid using that word..it will save you from some scripted BS answers.
I use 8080 all the time for router remote access and it works fine. Do you have any antivirus (though I suspect your not running Windows ) or maybe some other running application that might be trying to use the same port?
