Internet Speed test 1/10 what I am capable of doing

Hi I have a Netgear C3700 wifi cable modem router. It say I am capable of download speeds up to 340Mbps but I am only doing 32Mbps and up load only 7. As I look at the info I notice the box on the left say I am a Preferred customer, but my bill says I am Premier. As for the speed are my cox settings at preferred or premier? TX

@Tomzee

For some reason your particular modem was resistant to taking the correct speed service code.  Think I finally got that sorted out, let us know if there is improvement.

First of all, just because the device has a theoretical capability of 340Mbps, you will never get much more than the 50 or 100Mbps depending you which plan you have. So, no, you're not at 1/10 of your capable speed.  I would call Cox and get your plan straightened out, preferred or premier.  What did you order?

Once you know what plan you are on, check your speed using a wired Ethernet connection to the modem.  Preferred should give you 50 to 60Mbps download, premier should give you 100+Mbps.  This will help narrow down the issue if you are getting slower speed.  Don't forget, that 340Mbps if theoretical, not obtainable in the real world.

Please let us know how you make out.

Allen, thank you for your response. I have premier as part of a bundle. I have power, cable and Ethernet going to my cable/modem. I have done many test over several months and about 32 down is best I can do. TX

If you're wired directly to your Gateway and you're capping out at 32 Mbps, it may be an issue with your account config file.

Did you previously have an older modem that you upgraded from? a DOCSIS 2 modem?
