Internet problems when on battery
I have a problem connecting to the internet if my battery is less than 50% charged. I have to work remotely sometimes, and this is most annoying, because it cuts the time I have to work in half. I have never had this problem with any other provider. Once I plug the laptop back in, the internet again works fine. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

Sounds like your wireless NIC is powering off or going into a low power mode when your battery gets below 50%. Not a ISP issue. Probably happened with a driver update. Just adjust your laptop's power plan. See here. For more specific instructions I would need to know your operating system and laptop model.

O.K., I see the issue now. I have my computer on Power Saver, so I can simply switch it to Balanced when this happens. Thanks! I had not thought about power settings, because this never happened when I had Verizon or Comcast. In fact, it would go down to 10% before it even warned me. It doesn't warn me now, just doesn't work. Strange. Well, I know which wireless modem NOT to buy now.

Glad you found the fix. Sometimes you have to go into advanced settings to adjust the power settings there too, but thats more for problems with wireless when coming out of sleep/suspend.
But FYI, this really doesn't have anything to do with Cox. I don't say that to to defend them (since I don't work for them) but so you know incase it starts acting up again. The only relationship I can think of is your using a gateway with Cox. And maybe the gateway has some kind of advanced wireless settings that..well interacts some how with your battery life, I just can't think of how. What kind of gateway/modem do you have?

I have a wifi modem from Cox - Netgear, I believe. 8x4.

CG3000? If so...good luck with that. Could be a wireless setting issue, but I doubt it and I don't touch those gateways with a 10foot pole. Its working now though right?
